We also finish up a series with Purdue this year. Since, I don't think the Wisconsin game will ever be played (postponed 3 times), it wouldn't be much of a loss for MD and Rutgers to disappear from the schedule.
VT also has 2 game SEC series with Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Alabama. I would rather play 3 more random SEC schools 2 games each that play Rutgers and Maryland.
Also thrown in for good measure 2 game series vs. BYU and Arizona. I don't know how these games ended up coming about but if BYU didn't cancel our series when they joined the B12, I guess it will end up being played.
C'mon beating Maryland will make you feel good and having Rutgers on the schedule will be like an extra scrimmage that counts for bowl eligibility - the same thing t he B1G does.
About 5 years before Beemer's wife got hurt on the bicycle they started over scheduling. Then they recruited too many kids who would rather smoke the funny weed than make money in the NFL. Blacksburg and Christiansburg are small towns so if you can't lay off the stuff and your impulse control is bad, well now you have no kickers, etc.
If by over scheduling you mean 2 P5 OOC games a year, then yeah we're over scheduled. If you mean we have too many quality opponents, I disagree because because with the exception of having Alabama on the future OOC schedule, we've gone from teams with all time wins in the top 10, to teams at the bottom of the P5.
07 - LSU and ECU
08 - Nebraska and ECU
09 - Nebraska, Bama, and ECU
10 - Boise and ECU
11 - ECU
12 - Cincy and Pitt
13 - Bama
14 - Ohio State and ECU
15 - Ohio State, Purdue, ECU
16 - Tennessee, ECU, Notre Dame
17 - West Va, ECU
Now, it was generally worth an extra win a year to be in the Coastal as opposed to the Atlantic, but schedules like 2009, 2015, and 2016 is too much.
2010 proved you could lose to JMU if you got just four days rest between games and played in the dreary rain.
OK. I was referring to future schedules which do have 2 P5 a year for the most part but that's from Rutgers, Maryland, Arizona, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, BYU and Alabama. The Wisconsin series will never be played. Every time it gets close, Wisconsin post pones it. It was supposed to be about 2006.

UofL vs UK I think will continue on....UK fans want that game probably even more than UofL fans do...TV and schools for those 4 ACC/SEC matchups will likely work to protect those games.

RE: Big 10 Closing off their OOC schedules
The only thing I've seen on this subject is that the Big Ten has dropped the requirement to schedule a P5 OOC. Nothing about saying they are going to drop all P5 opponents. The top teams will still want a good P5 scalp on their resume for CFP selection purposes. Indiana, Illinois, Rutgers et al not so much. They don't want to schedule a potential "L" that could cost them bowl eligibility, and I don't blame them.

I’d like see an annual Miami vs UL game. I think those 2 have the potential be great and they have the Howard Shnellenburger connection.

Indiana actually tried to cancel this years game back in March…. 6 months before game. Louisville refused to cancel so late. I doubt the next two games will be played. IU will want to cancel those.
It’s unfortunate because it’s a local rivalry game with Indiana being just across the river and Bloomington just being 100 miles away.
I would expect Louisville will be looking for a game for next season.
This is bad for CFB.
Local rivals are good.
Cincy and Loserville (UofL) can play again. We’re gettin’ the band back together!
