RE: Cole Tucker to Calgary
Congratulations to Cole Tucker and his proud Huskie parents!

https://niuhuskies.com/news/2023/5/2/foo...draft.aspx

Another great story from NIU athletics; unfortunately another example of how mediocre the current media relations operation is. A fellow freelancer called me to double-check a missing detail from the press release; namely that his father (Brent Tucker, a four-time letterman and one of two NIU AP Honorable Mention All-America honorees from 1988) isn't even mentioned. This is common practice among freelancers who don't have a phone number or e-mail to get help from Mike Korcek.
Yes his Huskie Hall of Fame mother and former NIU gymnast is mentioned to explain that Tucker also has Canadian citizenship because of his mom (Cindy Hemstad) being born in Manitoba. But if not for laziness not completely drive home the local ties by including a mention of his father. Both parents still live and work in the DeKalb-Sycamore area and have many friends and work acquaintances.
In addition, the story on the MAC Champion men's golf team is accompanied by a group photo of the Huskies with all of their coaches and their first-place trophy which is great. But would it take that much more work to do a left-to-right identification of everyone?
Actually pick an "Olympic" sport and when you click on roster there is a team photo with no identification. As freelance writers trying to pitch "local athlete makes good at D-I NIU" stories to our bosses, it would be a help and at least a way to zero in and steal a head shot of the athlete. And for those of you thinking why not just call Donna and Company and ask for a mug shot or action photo, you'll be lucky if you get a timely response let alone any response.
