Nice name! Wow, nice touch on those threes! Kid should definitely help. I wonder why he transferred from DePaul?

Hunter and Thorton both made more 3’s last year than Philmont did but he should be a good 6th or 7th man.
I don’t think there is a t on the end of his name. I could also see him replacing Nutter in the starting lineup. Competition makes everyone better.

6’7 shooting guards don’t grow on trees. He’s going to make us better with his wing span alone.

BDB5yp, do you think he will start for NIU or be 6th or 7th guy? He seems to be a good 3point shooter but doesn’t seem to be a low post player. In my book the more 3point shooters the better. I see him as a replacement for losing Hunter.

Ok Bigredd, what’s your lineup then? Is Williams coming off the bench or is Nutter?

My guess is the guy did not transfer from Depaul where was getting som PT to go to a low Mid-Major team to be the 6th or 7th man. Just my opinion.

Or maybe since he is a senior, maybe he just wanted to to take it easy for his last year and being a 6th or 7th man for a low Mid-Major was all he was looking for.. Kind of like retiring to Florida.

He definitely transferred to NIU planning on being a starter. Williams, Coit, Nutter and a 6’9- 6’10 guy seem like locks to start. Either Philemon or Bradley from NM State would I’m guessing be the other starter. If everyone who is here now stays.

I'm sure he'll get his shot at starting in the early season as will a few other guys but, imo when this all shakes out, he's going to be a 6th man on the team.

RE: Philmont Gebrewhit signed to NIU
He started a number of games for DePaul but did not do much when giver bigger minutes. By the end of the season he was pretty much out of the rotation. DePaul was using him mostly as a deep specialist but the shooting was very streaky. DePaul is trying to get out of the cellar in one of the best college basketball conferences in the country so he was looking at an uphill battle for minutes as they have turned the roster trying to upgrade.

I would say he is definitely coming to NIU to compete for a starting role. The MAC is a massive drop off from the Big East so that alone may help his stats. I think it is a good pickup for NIU and adding a player with power conference experience is beneficial for a number of reasons.

If Big Red is right and he's only a sixth man for us, think that would mean we'll have probably best team we've had in 5+ years? Not where we'd like to be yet, but at least finally feels like we're going in the right direction.

I could obviously be wrong...its happened before...but much like College Man said, I don't see a spot for him. Like was mentioned, he's a 3 point shooter who played 20+ minutes a game at DePaul and only averaged around 5 ppg.

Now...playing in the Big East and playing in the MAC and the size and athletic ability of defenders is not equal. So an increase in ppg is possible. But I don't see him supplanting any of Coit, Williams or Nutter and he doesn't play inside at all so he's not all that useful in as the 4 or 5 because Ibarguen, Konan, Duro and Bradley should have those spots solidified.

But yeah, I do agree that this signing makes this one of the deepest rosters we've had....as long as I can remember. And it could still be improved upon.

I do expect him to get substantial minutes next season but coming in as a sub. Plus, I think that's the best way to use him.

5 ppg average??? Then he's not much of a 3-point shooter. In those videos, did they keep showing the same shot or two?

Nobody is coming from a Big East team to the MAC unless they believe they can start. I’m predicting he’ll start as a 2 or 3.

RE: Philmont Gebrewhit signed to NIU
I think we have to be careful about planning on Williams to start right away coming off the ACL. Does anyone know when he had his surgery? He was on the bench on crutches for a few weeks right after the injury, then was not to be found in mid February. If that is when he had his surgery, he may not be back until sometime during conference play. Everyone’s recovery schedule is different.

RE: Philmont Gebrewhit signed to NIU
He probably does believe he will start but unless Williams isn’t ready to go or is limited he’s the 6th man. He is taking on the Derwishi Hunter role he’s just a few inches taller but he’s here to make 3’s. Hunter was much better from 3 than Philemon. Over looked is the kid from NM State. He may push NIU to a new level if he’s good.
