Lots of Oklahoma people in the Valley, especially Bakersfield and Fresno. The book and movie "The Grapes of Wrath" documented an example of the movement in the Great Depression. My mother's family went back and forth between Oklahoma and the Valley before ending up back in Oklahoma.
I hear that Joad kid is down to choosing between Fresno State and Oklahoma State.

Born & raised in Memphis. Undergrad degree from Memphis State.

Attended my first Memphis State football and basketball games in 1952, at age 5. I still have personal memories from each of those games.

Florida - born & raised in Florida; born into a family where all but one uncle pulled for the Gators; both grandfathers attended there (one graduated, the other transferred due to call to ministry); great uncle ran track there, was one of the athletes who tested Gatorade, & his name still sits in the school record book for one of the events he ran

Liberty - received both my undergrad & graduate degrees from there; met my wife there; mom, brother, & sister-in-law also attended there

side teams:

USF - was born & raised in the Tampa Bay area, so the Bulls will always have a soft spot in my heart

Iowa - between seeing them fairly often at the Outback Bowl & a connection to the school through family friends, they just became a team I could only root against if they played the Gators; something about the logo & color combo pulled me in, & it gives me an easy team to pull for against OSU & Michigan

If your allegiances are all based on color schemes ... I must say that is oddly impressive.

Being from UK I have no direct connection.
NFL started on UK TV in 80’s and on the inside cover of an NFL guide was a map with college teams and conferences.

Now we get a good few games via ESPN (shown by BT Sport here)

I simply chose the rival of the major team or teams in the P5

PAC 12 - UCLA
Big XII - Texas AM
B1G - Michigan State
SEC - Auburn
ACC - Clemson (so many NC teams, so went with the one from SC)

Now Auburn and TAMU are in same conference and UCLA will join MSU

But once you root for a team you can’t go back

So it’s those 5 plus whoever is playing Norte Dame

Thomas Joad IV is walking on at OU.

And in the ACC, other than Miami, I would consider Clemson FSU's rival

SLU, Mizzou football, Lindenwood FCS and hockey. Didn’t go to either of them, but they represent the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Miami has fallen on such hard times, it's hard to figure that one. They were certainly a greater rival for FSU for an intense 20 year period, but since joining the ACC Clemson has been a tougher game for them.
