Rhule may be the right coach there at the right time.

One thing's for certain...Rhule has a lower bar after the Frost debacle [16-31].

One problem with Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, Maryland, Rutgers and West Virginia? They struggled to win in their new conferences. Same could be said for Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Virginia Tech and Miami Florida. Boise State took a little bump moving from the WAC to MWC.

Virginia Tech won four ACC titles in their first seven years in the conference.

I think that Rhule is set up to thrive. After the last few years, all he needs to do is get to .500 within a couple years, then start going back to bowl games, etc etc. And if he does better than that, all the better. Nebraska has the fan support and enthusiasm to return to long term success on the field, and they also have the patience now to let the new Coach fix what's been broken.
Historically, Nebraska has been a better job than Wisconsin, but let's say for argument's sake that Wisconsin today is a better job than Nebraska. Wisconsin just fired a guy who went 67-26 and won 6 out of 7 bowl games (including 2/3 Major Bowls). Their expectations for Fickell will be SKY HIGH, but he won't have more resources or potential than Rhule.

Most of us jumped to conferences with higher levels of competition and cut ourselves off from the heart of our fan basses and alumni bases. That goes back to the UConn vs BC to the ACC thread recently. BC did ok in the ACC, but cut itself off from its base by leaving the BE.
VT did not. VT was doing well under Beemer when it jumped. By moving to the ACC when it did, it made a lateral move in talent level, but situated itself closer to the center of its base.

You could say that about the big 12 schools, too. Colorado and Nebraska abandoned their bases and have struggled. A&M had close to 100% buy-in from fans, recruits, alumni, students...almost everybody really. Missouri had plenty of excitement, but they were always going to struggle a bit once Pinkel retired.

If Rhule can't get it done at Nebraska then no one can. He's literally the perfect hire for them; I was surprised he took the job.

Come on. Who are you trying to fool!? Nebraska wasnt winning in the Big 12 either. TX/OU owned them. Colorado took their soul in 2001. Their last Conference title was nearly 25 years ago!

RE: Dodd: Feeling weight of Nebraska's plight, Matt Rhule seeks return to relevancy
I think Nebraska was caught in a catch 22 in the Big 12:
They needed Texas recruits and exposure to relevant
To have that, they needed to be in a conference with Texas, TAMU, and Oklahoma
This meant battling those schools for recruits and that was a recruiting battle where they would get some good talent but not quite enough to have an edge on the big South programs.
Unhappy with being the perennial bridesmaid and never the bride they looked for a more favorable position there but instead have to contend with Ohio St, Michigan, and Penn St instead (not to mention your Wisconsins, Iowas, and Mich St’s).
It’s too bad that the original Big 12 line up isn’t still intact. They played some excellent football and basketball together and were a powerful check to overwhelming wealth and influence the Big 10 and SEC have now. (And this is coming from an Ohio St fan)

I think that any program with the support that Nebraska has is just waiting for the right coach.
