RE: UVA Tailgating
Last season they averaged 40681 and Drew 40556 for ODU, less than the 41122 they drew for Richmond, so I’m sure we’ll be bringing much more.

We will bring more people than ODU or Richmond but that game isn't selling out. Are we bringing the MRD's? I think UVA puts visitor bands up in Section 516

RE: UVA Tailgating
The MRDs definitely need to be there. To those who know the decision makers for this, make sure they decide to send them.

From what I hear, we will find out the game time on Tuesday. Let’s hope for a night or a late afternoon game. Noon games are no good. Night game would be best to avoid the hot sun all day.

Being their home opener and the first home game since the tragedy last year, I am expecting a good turnout from their fans. Really hoping for a huge JMU turnout. Been waiting a long time for this matchup.

I’m not sure their reasoning for doing this sale but it seems to me it’s the kind of deal you run closer to the game when you’re stuck with a bunch, not prior to access to buy single game tickets. And I’d have to think some STHs might be pissed, the tickets go on sale to STHs first before the general public on July 12th. I bought one of their 3-pack bundles to lock in my JMU tix and will be in 112 on the JMU sideline and near our fans, though I have a strong feeling no matter where you’re sitting (outside of their Priority donors seats) you’ll be surrounded by JMU fans.

It appears to me, their trying to get a jump on their season ticket holders. UVA knows a huge portion of their STH's will be unloading their tickets for this game. P5 fans reduce the heck out of their tickets for G5 and FCS games. This is their way of beating their own fans to market.

Where did you see this? The website shows single game tickets will be made available “Onsale: 7/12/2023 at 9:00 am”.

They posted it on Facebook. Could be a ploy to get Jmu fans in the upper deck away from the field
Thank you, that is a great deal. Only problem is those seats are high up and in the corner of the UVA sideline away from JMU.

They're at the same endzone as the JMU seats. Not the same corner, but the same end of the field.

We went to UVNAY v Texas years ago, we could sit near anywhere in the place.

50 yd line on the 4th row? Sure, just stroll on down.

Lots of blue blazers and khakis toting the flask? Sure.

But fair weather fans doesn’t begin to describe the BooHoos base.

Yes. Ima trying to be polite to some of our folk.

RE: UVA Tailgating
UVA seems to draw between 36-44k per game, based on last year.
Biggest game was UNC in November. Average was around 40k it seems.

Suspect the ODU and RU turnouts were negligible, maybe 1k or so. We will dwarf whatever fans they had.

The wild card here is whether they "rally" after the tragedy last year, and show up in droves for their first game back. I would guess UVA will have 40-45k fans, leaving 15-20k seats available.

Like the MRD idea, would be nice if JMU could gobble up about 500 of those $10 seats this weekend for the MRDs. Doubt UVA will want to give them free seats.

One difference here is it’s been something like 40 years since they’ve played us. I also don’t think ODU fans travel as well as JMU fans do, and this is in our backyard.

Like basketball, after we beat them, they may not play us again for 40 years. So this butt kicking could be a once in a lifetime experience for JMU fans.

If they on average draw 35k fans or so, I think we are looking at 20-25k available for JMU fans. A sellout is quite possible.

I wish there 20-25k JMU fans, but I think it would be more in 15 or lower range.

We were getting at least 10-15k in Frisco I think. The first year against YSU, we had majority of those seats. This should be far easier. Short trip for a large chunk of the fanbase.

Not sure if we can get a homecoming level response, but last year, that was overflowing everywhere. We probably had at least an additional 5k outside the stadium that never made it in.

How many did JMU bring to Maryland and WVU @ Fedex?

You would imagine there would be a nice bump from that with FBS excitement. It's also a MUCH easier trip for those in the RVA/Tidewater/Harrisonburg areas due to distance and not having to touch the hellscape of 95.

Perhaps, but UVA is only an hour away from JMU and I could see a lot of people making that trip since it is the first time since 83'.

I could've gotten 5 together early yesterday morning but waited and then I could only get three at a time. Got 3 in Section 325, Row H and three in Section 325, Row O.

Otherwise I'm thinking of buying a block of 20 at $50/ticket.

the only way JMU brings less than 15 k is if UVA fans buy 45 K and that's all that is left -and that' not happening. anecdotal evidencence from my JMU network in NC / VA / DC is that everyone is going, and has /or is looking to buy in blocks with other Dukes outside of the priority JMU section.. this is all well in advance of the JMU " official seats " being released. UVA fans i know are throwing the towel in on this one to be a "Purple out "in Chartlottesville. the buzz here is exponentially greater than our Fedex with WVU because its UVA and we really don't like them.

RE: UVA Tailgating
Predictions of kicking UVA’s butt and 15k+ JMU fans in attendance? Yadda, yadda, yadda, (yadda)…and then add some more chest thumping.

I hope all the JMU flavored predictions are correct. I know some of what gets posted here is simply tinted by looking at things thru purple glasses (I’m guilty as anyone), plus there’s a 40 year history of pent-up frustration about not playing the Hoo-losers that has prompted most of this kind of JMU overconfidence.

Still, a blow-out win? JMU fans showing up by the tens of thousands? Smack-talk is one thing, walking the talk is another.

First game jitters with a new QB, and essentially a new set of receivers gives me pause. Ultimately, a 1 point victory by JMU would do it for me, oh, and seeing the MRDs in attendance.
I don’t see a JMU blow-out happening, nor a purple clad crowd dominating Scott stadium. Sorry, I just don’t. UVA will be ready.

And I was also at that sorry-ass UVA/Texas game. Texas fans came into Charlottesville making snarky comments about the UVA stadium, and dismissing UVA as a serious FB team. Heck, Texas even boasted Ricky Williams…and Texas was humiliated.

JMU doesn’t need to fear UVA, but this contest will be close.

Agree Longhorn. Plus, coming back from the 3 players lost, UVA has something to play for.

Richmond got the first game of season bump and I assume ODU countered that by bringing more fans. W&M had 42,982 to open 2021 season and their next home game had 36,036.

First game bump is going to be higher in 2023 given how their unfortunate end to the 2022 season. We will bring more than Richmond and ODU combined. I wouldn't be shocked if this was their first home game with 50k in a long time.

While this may well be the first “real” game of the year, I think playing Bucknell the previous week will allow the first game jitters to get out and help ensure the QB and receivers are on the same page. UVA tends to play to the level of their competition, so I agree that it will likely be closer than some think.
