RE: Big 12 talking with Fresno state
Boise State is pooring $300 million for their upgrades for a future Big 12 invite as we speak. That was a promise that they are trying to keep.

Yep, the source is the President himself.

I read the entire article and also the “source”, please link the exact words that Fresno’s president allegedly used. I found nothing but a big write up about a local sales tax ballot measure aimed at boosting Fresno’s revenues by $36m per year.

Edit, ok, after reading the source again, I managed to find this buried in the text:

Jimenez-Sandoval confirmed the rumors that the Big 12 is interested in Fresno State, saying that the major conference would like to add a strong West Coast brand to its ranks.

The President was speaking at a fundraising party to boost interest in getting a local sales tax increase passed, apparently by using alleged big 12 interest to help boost enthusiasm. But that wording is either poor or he was being deliberately vague, almost certainly the latter.

Which means what? He's not going to say we suck and will never have a chance.

If you look at the actual comment it's more about the B12 wanting a west coast presence and Fresno's President freely applying that comment to themselves. Fresno would be dilutive to the TV deal. There won't be the votes for dilution as Yormark has already said.

Edit, I clicked the source article link, was that the wrong link perhaps?

It’s in the article within the article (although they linked two, so you might have clicked the other one).

Quote: During the confab, Jimenez-Sandoval confirmed the rumors that the Big 12 is interested in Fresno State, saying that the major conference would like to add a strong West Coast brand to its ranks.

Now, it doesn’t provide a direct quote, but it’s the author’s account of the president’s comments at the confab. The author seems to be a local political writer as opposed to a sports realignment writer, so this comment was buried in the article.

I fully agree Fresno’s chances are <1% to be invited.

But the President did say the Big XII has expressed interest in them, according to the local journalist who attended the confab:

Quote:During the confab, Jimenez-Sandoval confirmed the rumors that the Big 12 is interested in Fresno State

I think the interest is more “here’s a list of what Fresno needs to do to be considered by the Big XII”.

Yeah I edited my post after I found it. I read it as “we need to get this sales tax increase approved to make Fresno st more attractive to the big 12; they’re expanding out west”, rather than “ Yormark is really close to inviting us!”. I guess it’s not impossible, but it seems unlikely that Yormark would invite a g5 they could add any time they like while there’s so much turmoil and drama in the Pac and ACC. Maybe after 2036? Maybe?

Jimenez-Sandoval is trying to drum up support for a local ballot measure that will financially benefit the university. Even if the “talking” consists of nothing more than a 10-minute conversation he’s had with Yormark, of course he’s going to play it up.

Fresno president calls Big12 offices. Big12 secretary picks up phone and says sure I’ll have someone call you back. Fresno pres. to media. Big12 is totally into us and is playing hard to get.

If the PAC stays together, I could see the big 12 going after SDSU, Fresno, Boise and maybe UNLV.

The Big12 would be stupid to add Fresno State and/or Boise, when the 4 Corners schools are still in play. Plus, they can just wait and grab better scraps after the ACC gets raided. And at some point down the road, the B1G will snatch Oregon and Washington, and further weaken the PAC. Not buying what this article is pushing.

...a potential 'diversionary' article to throw folks off the scent of the actual staus of things? Colorado has been REALLY quiet as of late, compared to their 'PAC peers'... 05-stirthepot05-stirthepot05-stirthepot

Outside of the 4 corner schools, Big 12 has only expressed interest in Gonzaga. They'll stay at their current total of teams if PAC remains together.

Big 12 have also said they also want to add schools with strong on the court and on the field performance. Fresno State only have football. San Diego State have men's basketball. Boise State is the only doing good with both sports.

Boise State does have a Baylor tie in leadership. That is why he is on talking terms with several Big 12 Presidents.

The Big12 has a vested interest in waiting till the ACC GoR expires and hoping to pick the bones, if they can't get the 4c.

Well, they probably aren't "in play".

The longer this drags on without action, the more I compare the Big 12 "4 corner" dreams to the AAC dreams of adding Big 12 schools, the military academies, and Colorado State when in reality, they chose 6 C-USA schools.

In this comparison, the Big-12 ends up adding Fresno State + Boise State + USF + Memphis instead of Utah + Colorado + Arizona + Arizona State.
