Big 12= Big East when two different ideas on what schools want will clash.

Yomark should go after UConn and UMass as a pair since they have football.

RE: Big XII partnering with Rucker Park in NYC
Does The Athletic article note that Yormark is interested in adding Big East members?

We all know about Gonzaga/Big 12. But I don't recall reading any credible sources noting the Big 12 could eventually target Big East schools.

No doubt, however, that this Rucker Park move is (on paper at least) shrewd by Yorkmark. Plant the Big 12 flag in New York City with what could be one of only three future power men's hoops leagues (once the Pac and ACC are devoured). Rather oddly brilliant, indeed.

No credible sources, just speculation. But with his insistence on emphasizing basketball it would make sense.

I can see Yormark inviting LIU due to his connections there, hosting games in the Nets arena. Causing the spirit of the legendary Clair Bee to smile down from the great coaching box beyond.

At least you’ve stopped saying he’s an alum when resorting to this!

He is an a fellow Kelley grad like Shanks though. That’s the connection you should focus on.

But, speaking of previous connections, it’s not unfathomable Phillips shoots for ND to get Chicago and ends up with NIU for ACC

Agree

Imo, it’s plausible he is setting up an attempt at acquiring the 13 year Espn obligation on Big East lineage schools. Basketball centric 3rd conference that espn already has to pay. And why it seems they only want 2 from PAC if they can swing that.

I did say that, once—because he received an award at an alumni event. I should have put in more research hours.

LIU Gala Celebrates Distinguished Honorees and Alumni

I don't see the need for the ACC to expand, but Northern Illinois would be a great fit in the Big XII.

I don't know whether he's targeting schools or targeting potential recruits from a talent rich area. The latter is more likely, IMO.

He's growing the Big XII brand. That's been his MO from the moment he started. He has NYC connections and that's an excellent place to attempt to break-in. I don't think it has anything to do with schools, but this is the realignment board.

Not to diminish the 4 teams joining the Big12. But they aren’t joining for basketball prowess, except for maybe Houston. The Big12 conference numbers will take a hit next year. Ucf is not going to raise that kenpom number in basketball next year.

I was being sarcastic, but NIU did shoot for the Big 8 back in the day.

UCF is currently 53rd in Kenpom this year. One spot behind Oklahoma and 8 spots ahead of Texas Tech.

I don’t know. I can’t predict the future. You brought up Kenpom.

But just a couple of clicks would show you that they did in fact beat Oklahoma State this season.

In 2022, BYU average almost 14,000 per game (No. 16 in the country). Cincinnati offers a tradition-rich program with almost 1,900 wins in program history.

Agree with you on UCF. But that program offers a fine (and well known) coach in Johnny Dawkins.

We all know about Houston.

I feel you are failing to fully note the basketball significance of the four additions collectively. Lots of quality hoops with that quartet.
