How about a single transfer portal thread for all things portaling.

This one is one to watch:

East Rock legend Tyler Nickel has hit the portal. Could he be coming home? Would be a great get for By and the Dukes

Our backup long snapper is still looking for a landing spot.

If we can get him; keep Terrance; and add a pg & big man .. we should be not only the favorite in the sunbelt but also a threat nationally ! Go dukes

I'd love to have him but won't be surprised if he's headed to the Big East or A10, I think he could start in those conferences next year.

We do have a PG signed already for the HS class of 2023 in Tyshawn Archie and a 6'8" PF named Jaylen Carey. We currently have Strickland and Xavier Brown at the PG position coming back, although who knows what the transfer portal will bring. Tyree and Terrance are listed as SG but they might be able to bring the ball up as well. Given how Terrance works on his game, it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up adding that to his game over the offseason.

Nickel would be a great fit in our position less scheme.

I’m sure he’ll get some bigger looks, but don’t think he’ll feel the love anywhere more than if he came to JMU.

Never know what a kid's thought process will be. Lack of playing time is likely a big part of him entering the portal, plus I don't follow other schools' recruiting really but saw plenty of "bye, we have x and y coming in" type replies from UNC fans. Maybe just sour grapes, but maybe legit that he felt it was just going to get worse with the guys coming in. Might not want to take the chance on having the same scenario play out again at another high major, but you never know. Another high major seems most likely, but we'll see.

Ihenacho has brought the ball up plenty for us, I'm a little torn on him there but he's at least some nice depth. If Strickland to LIU turns out to be false and he can stay healthy then I feel pretty good about Strickland/XB/Ihenacho. If it is true, I still feel pretty good about XB, I guess whether we have enough depth would largely depend on whether Archie is a guy that can step in and contribute right away.

For what it’s worth,

Nickel doesn’t use Twitter much but almost all his activity in last six months is retweeting for a local girls basketball player from spotswood who will be at VCU as a freshmen next season.

Not sure if a friend/girlfriend, but could be a connection and landing spot for him.

Yuck, that might be even worse than VT!

Offer Nickel the Mayorship of Elkton to get him to come here. Would be nice, but we didn't make his final 5 list the first go round. Certainly worth our best sales pitch though.

Jaden House and Tyler Nickel are both from Virginia and played aau ball together .. if coach by can get these two guys to Harrisonburg and keeps Terrance .. we are going to be a force next year! Go dukes!

Nickel had the opportunity to play HS ball at an elite HS, but chose to stay in valley to prove he could make it to a major conference team his way.

I am sure he has pro ball aspirations. Is he motivated to show he can do that from JMU / Sunbelt. Plenty of NBA stars have come from mid - majors. Why not Tyler?

He could be a legend at JMU, or one of the crowd at a P5. Help Byington build the Gonzaga of the East!
