Saw this elsewhere and thought I'd post it here. I guess the SBC explored starting field hockey and decided "Nope".

JMU's independent field hockey team, left homeless by the move to the SBC, joins App State, Miami (OH), Ohio, Ball State, Kent State, Central Michigan, Bellermine, and Longwood in the MAC. I thought they might join ODU and Liberty in the Big East, but the MAC is such a welcoming league - just check out the exhaustive list of current and former affiliate members on wikipedia. It includes something close to 10% of all DI schools.
Interesting that it is announced now but doesn't start until '24. I'm glad though. App, with one to the nation's best goalies coming back for a COVID grad year, has a great chance in '23 to win the MAC and go to its first NCAA tournament. After '24, the title should be JMU's to lose.
My hope of App, ODU, JMU, and Liberty getting together in the SBC and forming the nation's 3rd best field hockey conference in over (for now anyway, looking at you Ga St and Coastal).
