Swofford and Son at Raycom
Can somebody inform me of this whole story?

How much of the ACC's poor TV contract is due to this conflict of interest?

I remember it was pointed out back when the original 12 year deal was signed. Raycom I think was on the verge of going under without the ACC, so this deal ended up saving Raycom...for now. John Swofford spun it as some sort of act of loyalty to a great partner to include Raycom and the low figure was a trade off for visibility.

Very little. It was always a trivial piece of the deal. But, as always, disgruntled fans need to have a villain to blame for all their woes - even the self-inflicted ones - and that's usually the Commissioner. If you read fan sites, most Commissioners are incompetent, corrupt despots only out to feather their own nests. Their lapdogs, the university presidents, are powerless to control them.

If only Commissioners and Presidents were as intelligent, competent and virtuous as all of us on this forum are, college sports would thrive, the Cinderellas and Davids would flourish and the Goliaths would share the wealth.

I think that about covers it.

ESPN came out and said the ACC would have gotten more money if they weren't required to sub-contract out to Raycom.

It was part of a whole culture where Swofford thought the ACC belonged to him.

He would have been indicted if it were a government entity.

FSU, Clemson and Miami's presidents and athletic directors could've told Swofford to kick rocks and refused to sign.

What was he gonna do?

Boot those three schools out of the ACC?

Those presidents and the ADs designated to advise them blew it big-time by kow-towing
