RSN Model... dead dead dead
Just a matter of time before others follow the same path WB did with ATT Sports.

RE: RSN Model... dead dead dead
Average people are cutting the cord at a rapid pace and unwilling to pay high cable rates for networks they don't watch, which is sports networks and the like (and many more of course).

Warner Discovery is in $48.6 million of debt and, like Sinclair, is trying to get out of the RSN business. We know MLB is going to take over broadcasts for baseball teams on struggling networks but it remains to be seen what the NBA and Hockey are going to do. If they balk at going in with Baseball, then you'd have networks full of baseball content and who wants to see nothing but baseball all day?

Quite amazing how many of us, including myself, were critical of MLS going away from RSN altogether and getting that deal with Apple. Looks they were one step ahead of this. NBA, MLB and the NHL gotta get something together rather soon and not get blindsided by the next rounds of RSNs closing dahn shop.

I suppose the next smartest thing for some of these leagues to do is go heavy on broadcasting events on their own network.

Between streaming deals and bargain hunting networks, maybe they can make up some of the difference.

Yea, as much as the MLB charges for their digital platform, they might as well cut out the middle-man and just use their digital platform as the main source of production.

How much could the league owned networks realistically broadcast of their own inventory? MLB, NBA, and NHL networks should be able to do two games a night (possibly more on the weekends) unless if they are up against one of the national TV windows.

On a digital platform, they can do all the games.

I'm really happy that I can watch my Utah Jazz on their own streaming service.
