We shot down the weather/research balloons BECAUSE we didn't shoot down the Chinese balloon. Admin had egg on its face and got trigger happy to try and appease critics.

There is a 0.000000001% chance if we shot down 3 objects and haven’t collected wreckage it’s just some commercial/private balloons. Leaving that chance open because the administration is so stupid they’d shoot down randy balloons/objects with our military

a) the govt didn’t shoot them down (unlikely imo)
b) the govt knows what they are and doesn’t trust the American people they serve to know (joke if that’s the case)
c) the govt has no clue what they are (slight pass but just say that)

The reason you send an F-22 with missiles to "shoot down" a balloon is so that the explosion will decimate the payload, (if there was one). Seems to me that any jet fighter with cannons could punch a bunch of holes in it and it will come down largely intact. Would be a h@ll of a lot cheaper, too. Then, we could find out what it really was. But that wasn't the objective. The objective was to obfuscate so there are no logical answers to our questions.

Of course, my strategy choices are the reason I'm not some flunky butt kissing General more concerned with white rage than doing my job.

Reportedly at the bottom of Lake Huron, which is deeeep. Military claims it tracked it to splashdown.

Also, it wasn't armed. Basically used a $400K sledge hammer to bring down something they still claim not to know what it is.

Sidewinder are programmed to self-destruct if/when they miss their target to keep the technology out out of other's hands.

There may be an explanation for the "other" objects said to be shot down.
