it is being produced by a production company started by a Charlotte Alum, and Biff is no fool.

Upon further review, it looks like Charlotte interests paid for the series and is lead by friends of Charlotte. In essence, it is an infomercial in the guise of a documentary. It is a clever subterfuge. 04-cheers

Honestly, ECU's thing is the same. Produced by a production company that uses student interns to produce. Was just on Youtube before moving to ESPN+ this year. Just an extension of hype videos into "get to know" players/coaches/operations people/etc.

Can't knock it. Any additional content for the fans is good.

Agree. I made the mistake of assuming Charlotte’s program was a legitimate documentary.

clt says this is not put together by student interns like eCu. from the article you posted, but apparently didnt read:

Titled “Mining for Greatness,” Emmy-winning producer Mickey Holden is engineering a 12-episode docuseries releasing every Thursday throughout the college football season via the streaming service, focusing on first-year head coach Biff Poggi and the 49ers’ first season in the American Athletic Conference.

Each episode will include the 49ers’ preparation for their upcoming opponent, as well as a look back at the previous week’s game. Holden’s team includes two editors, both of whom are Emmy winners, Richard Brooke and Jantzen Gianfrancesco.

My comment is not directed to the show’s quality, but to its purpose. A documentary “document(s) reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education or maintaining a historical record" ((Source).
In contrast, Charlotte’s series is akin to propaganda. I approve.

As it turns out my concern was unwarranted because Charlotte fans financed and produced the show. Under those conditions Charlotte will be shown in a positive light, but it is not a documentary. It is like propaganda. The word propaganda means “ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause…..” (Source).

I think the series is a brilliant move, but pretending it is an objective show from an objective source is ludicrous.

Carry on…..

RE: Charlotte 49ers to feature on HBO series
It would be interesting to read a report on how the series spins the lopsided losses suffered to date. I sense a "adversity builds character" theme, but I could be wrong. Typically, reality shows seek, manufacture, or shape conflict because it is interesting but the show is not typical due to its close ties to the school.

No talk of character building here. More like win or you are out.
