Southern Miss has bigs that are bigger and more manly than JMU. If the Dukes can’t get this into a full court game it probably won’t end well. We’ve seen some token pressure, by Byington is not fully committed to the press. Not sure why.
Im normally with you on the press and agree on the muscle down low. The few times we have ran the press it seemed like So Miss handled it very well. We got quick with the ball and turned it over on the other hand .

Pinckney is carving us up, no answers for him. Noticed that just about their entire roster is JuCo or D1 transfers. Would be interesting to see the SBC makeup but by my count we have 6 HS players to their 2.

Dribble dribble dribble dribble. This offense is just gross. When they actually move the ball they get quality shots, but it rarely happens. Edwards is shooting it but he should not be initiating offense, he absolutely kills the offense by over dribbling and refusing to make the easy play.

USM understands how to make the extra pass unlike us. They will most likely be the team to beat in March.

You get the rebound 1’ from the rim, circle back 17’ feet out and chuck up an air ball?

Dukes getting their ass handed to them. USM must have 50 points in the paint.

That’s a foul? Freidel didn’t touch him.

Just not our night. Maybe with Sule back and a neutral court we will have a better chance against them. Impressed with their D ( or at least their ability to better recognize what the refs were allowing on D).

Same bag different groceries. 11 Assists and 12 Turnovers. Just a mediocre team.

That was a beat down on both sides of the ball. Southern Miss looks like the best team in the Sun Belt so hopefully they will finish at the top and JMU won’t have to worry about losing the tiebreaker to them.

They were better coached and they have a complete roster with guards, forwards, and a center.
They shot well, but really it was getting shots near the rim that made their conversion % so high. They took very few 3’s because they were just routinely carving up JMU’s half court defense.

This team can be exciting, but they aren’t consistent and they’re generally sloppy. I watched the NFL game instead of this one while JMU Basketball was at halftime vs Troy.

RE: JMU vs Brett Favre U Hoops
In the postgame Byington talked about Southern Miss being significantly bigger and stronger inside. He didn’t really touch on rotations and why he played the game the way he did. Lots of vague responses on being out of rhythm, but no real answers on what he did to offset the size disadvantage.

The Dukes have a feel good stretch coming up with no games against good teams for a full month. There are a few mediocre teams, and a bunch of crap teams hovering between 250 and 300 in the NET. Should be a chance to move up in the standings and then finish the season with the last 4 games at home.

As disappointing as the 10-8 (4-4) record is, the Dukes have a path to get into the top 4 seeds without even improving how they are playing.
If they actually do improve with this veteran laden roster, then they are in the mix come tourney time.

Let's keep this in perspective.
This team has been DREADFUL the last 20 years. They had a nice run during the Covid year, but were pretty bad last year.

This is our first year in the Sun Belt. Sure, that's not a good conference, but it's better than the CAA, and we're in the middle of the pack in the first year.

You'd have to be out of your mind to be disappointed with this performance.

Humbling game. SoMiss has some very good players with size. Alvarez ate us alive at the point. Thankfully we don’t play them again until tourney time, right? Same with Troy. Congrats to the Golden Eagles, time to buckle down and finish the rest of the regular season strong.

Go Dukes!

Me too. I am still rooting for Megan Rapinoe’s big sister to lead the Jags to victory! And, I guess the “it’s just a game” and “we’ve sucked the last two decades so it’s really ok to suck more” is just getting old. It’s the O to P effect over here with this team.

Byington knows the league. He’s building from nothing.

Some people feel entitled to greatness from what? Why?

30 years of subpar mens basketball teams? Madison College Godwin Gym?

This team would run Lou Rowes, Matt Brady and Dean Keeners off the floor.

Byington came in after the piss poor product Lou “I was a good player here” Rowe put out.
—-> insert the LR admin killed his program protectionists
By - he’s not losing and losing and losing.
Plus he has hit on some talent.

JMU is not a Mark Few and Gonzaga hidden gem .
Byington is not going 32-0.

Lou Rowe’s team would’ve gotten smoked today by 20-30 points. I would not have been competitive at all. He’d be standing there with hands in his pockets.

We didn't play a terrible game. They just played a better one. They are likely the class of the sunbelt this year playing at home. Not the end of the world. Just gotta get a top 4 seed
