Im starting the Hire Frank Martin movement good coach probably still has alot of coaching left in him but probably not on radar for any bigtime jobs at this point and probably not looking for that kind of headache again be like an andy kennedy hire at UAB

A fascinating article with extensive interviews with Coach Martin and his family detailing his path to UMASS.

Stress the importance to Haynes of not getting silly fouls. 3 of the 5 he got yesterday were in the silly category. Sometimes you got to let it go and realize that the opponent getting an easy 2 is less hurtful than you getting a foul, particularly at the 4 and 5 position. I've observed that our half court offense functions better with him out there. With Taylor gone, I think we need him 30 minutes per game.

well said.. it does not seem like we have or know how to run any particular play.

I am also concerned about Taylor. What happened exactly? I did not catch the first few minutes of the game. Is it another concussion issue? I sure do hope not considering he was just recovering from one. If that is the case, I fear he may not be back for quite some time

Coach Forbes lost 12 home games in 5 years.....Forbes lost 2 games at home his 1st year to UNC Wilmington (25 wins) and UTC (29 wins). Both teams played in the NCAA Tournament. He lost 2 games at home his 2nd year to Tennessee (15 wins) and UNCG (25 wins). UNCG played in the NIT. He lost 4 games at home his 3rd year to Troy (16 wins), and then 3 in a row to end the season to Citadel (11 wins), Wofford (21 wins), and Furman (23 wins), costing ETSU the SoCon title. His 4th year the Bucs lost 3 home games to UNCG (29 wins), Wofford (30 wins), and UWGB (21 wins) in the CIT. Forbes did not coach the CIT game due the death of his father, but I counted it in his 12 home losses. UNCG played in the NIT and Wofford won a game in the NCAA Tournament. In Forbes final year at ETSU the Bucs lost 1 home game, to Mercer (17 wins). The Bucs only lost at home to 3 teams with a losing record during his 5 years at ETSU, El Cid, the Big Orange, and Troy. In addition, Forbes NEVER lost a game to VMI, Western Carolina, and Samford - home or away in 5 years and only lost to Mercer and El Cid 1x. Times have changed.....

Nice research.. our home losing streak right now is absurd

They think they said may have a broken wrist. Of course it said "may" and let us hope it is not broken. He deserves to be on the court and he is a difference maker.

Ugh.. hate to hear that. He is definitely a difference maker. I just don’t see how this team makes up for his loss the rest of year. A lot more losses seem inevitable

See post #15, this thread. He was going up for a layup, or possible dunk, but a trailing Bear literally pushed his torso, with moderate force, causing him to go flying, and land on said wrist. It was immediately clear that it could be bad. After much video review and discussion, the officials called it a flagrant 1, which is probably the correct call. In my view, it was intentional, but he wasn't deliberately trying to hurt him. But you just can't do that when a guy is up in the air.05-nono

And no, we can't really replace him - but we need to see more of what Gregory can do.

We miss Bob Hoffman. Was Mercer correct in letting him go or did he not have the support/finances he needed to succeed?

Just think how many tickets Bob Hoffman would sell coming into Johnson City. He seems to win wherever he goes. His sideline entertainment would be worth the price of admission in itself.

In theory, I agree that getting Gregory and other future starters/contributors some minutes this season would be of great benefit. In college ball, however, it really is about doing the best you can to win in the current season, so it becomes a very difficult balancing act between thinking about the future and the present. So Tipler and Jancek will be playing minutes that could be used to evaluate Strothers, Ilic, and Gregory because they help us win this season.

When I saw it live and the one replay on the videoboard, I thought it was something with his pelvis. He really landed HARD on his butt. I didn't pay attention to where his hands were. It was only after I saw him shaking his hands near the Buc bench that I thought it was a wrist injury.

Knowing what I know now, I'd like to see another replay to see what really happened.

I don't think the player fouled with the intent of hurting Taylor, but it was careless. I realize that players on different teams are competitors, but in another sense, they are also a brotherhood who are mostly playing playing for an education.

Yes I think it was just a hard foul and Josh hit the floor hard. I also thought it was his hip that was hurt but then you could see him at the end of the bench holding his wrist. I really wish him the best. I am sure it Jay will say at the beginning of the coach's show tonight what exactly happened.

I wasn't meaning to be using Gregory only as giving him experience for the future. I personally think he can help us down low now. Maybe not tremendously, but he has a different skill set than Illic. He can bang better, and *may* be a better low-post defender (as a 4, not a 5) - and possibly his equal as a rebounder. And I'm not dissing Illic; I just think Gregory, aside from Seymour and Haynes, of course, *could* give us more quality minutes inside. In no way am I saying he's a "replacement" for Taylor, but he can fill some of that hole. IMHO.

Yes, he landed hard on his lower back/butt, but he had put his wrist down in an attempt to break his fall. It was clear even as he was walking back to the bench that it was his wrist that was his biggest concern. And you could tell he was not only in pain, but worried and fearful ("disheartened" even) even then that it was broken. And............just to be clear............imo it was somewhat more than a hard foul, in that it was clearly intentional and not "a normal basketball play".

Coaches said they hope he will be back at least by tournament time. They said they do not yet know if his wrist was broken or not.

My reading between the lines - and it's strictly only that - is that their first opinion said that it is broken, and they're gonna get a second opinion just in case, and/or to decide if surgery is necessary. So that means IF it's broken, it's not all messed up real bad. That said.............if the second opinion also indicates a fracture..........my guess is he's out for the season, since it's his shooting hand. Would love to be totally wrong.03-phew

RE: Official Game Thread: Mercer
Wrist injuries suck. Don’t expect Taylor to be back shooting 3’s any time soon. With a crapshoot season like this, is it really even worth risking reinjury, potentially a career long problem? On the other hand, Oliver might not even have a job next year and probably feels a sense of self preservation starting to boil over…
