Man, no wonder it took JMU so long to get their R2!

So, Johns, please tell me that you actually expected to come onto our board and tell us that we were dillyussinionall to believe what has already passed without so much as a challenge. Really?

What do you think the response would be if a JMU fan went onto the Marshall board and declared that you are ALL stupid (knowing that the real number is really only about 87%)? I expect that the treatment would be much nastier than the gentle treatment you received.

Go, Dukes!

Purple, they’re not worth the time, even Marshall isn’t claiming this obvious troll.

Look it up!

I searched the phrase and the only thing I could find was on a Marshall social media site. It said that "ad hominem" is the last step in making Menudo.

"Ad hominem and the chilly sawce and let it boill for as lonng as it taiks to walk to the outhous and back or until the chilly sawce is xtra delishus, abot 7 minits unles yu wer stoopid enuf to putt yur outhous a lonng way frum the hous."

It is good to see such ethnic diversity at Marshall!

Oh, no.

I guess we'll have to wait until we rip the shorts off the SBC again.

I know we don't get a bowl game (unless appealed and approved), but can we play for the division and conference championship next season, or do we have to actually be the division champion again and runner-up is declared champ and gets to play for the conference title that we should be playing for?

pretty sure it's bowl eligible only in the conference championship.

So what is the reason for the drop? I guess due to Ukwu and Jones bolting for P5 programs. The free pub has been great in the off-season.

They reshuffled/reevaluated the entire list post Spring, seemingly focused on coaching and player/transfer changes. A lot of schools shifted, and Iowa also dropped out. Kentucky got our spot, so I guess they impressed the analysts more with recent changes.

The writeup on Kentucky isn't all that glowing, but I guess they think the new OC and OL changes will address the problems/concerns. Or maybe they just did this for clickbait, and think listing UK will get more page views.

Quote:The Wildcats ranked 112th in the FBS in scoring (20.4 points) and 116th in total offense (324.7 yards) in 2022. Kentucky surrendered 46 sacks last season, the most by any Power 5 program.

I would imagine losing your best returning player (on paper) to the portal would be a reason (I believe Ukwu was the only returning 1st team All SBC JMU player)..

It's been really nice to get the love, but not really surprised.
I think there's some uncertainty from those who are doing this list and honestly cannot blame them. We lost Ukwu and they probably think not being eligible for the postseason for second year will have some impact. However, Ukwu was the only real big loss and everyone else is back. If we had a returning QB under center I think that would have helped also.
And honestly, I am glad we aren't on it. This team needs to play ticked off next season. Keep disrespecting the Dukes and they'll just make them look silly.
In a strange way, I think this second year we are going to have even more people on our side and could actually help build even more support for this team. Keep winning and the media will be more and more outspoken about us.

Agreed with the bold. Despite all over turnover, if we know what we have at QB we’d be fine, but we could be anywhere from 25-85 if our QBs aren’t ready or up to it. Last year we were in a similar position but got fortunate as Centeio really delivered, we have to hope for the same. And I’m sure Coach Cigs loves taking any sign of slight/disrespect and using it as motivation. I’d rather sandbag and make a statement than fail to live up to unwarranted hype.

Cignetti has always been extremely complimentary of Barnett. The main concern has always been getting reps.
If Cignetti brings in another QB from the transfer portal, I think it's safe to say the QB concern is warranted. If not, I think it could be a sign that Cignetti believes we have a QB on the roster to get it done. Hopefully the QB battle is due to both guys being talented as opposed to neither guy good enough to separate from the other.
History has shown that this staff can elevate a QB. Hopefully this year will be no different.

I’m assuming you meant on defense. Plenty of big losses on offense (everyone outside of OL)..

I should have been more clear. I meant players transferring out. We didn't lose as many pieces this offseason as some feared we would (especially after the NCAA decision). Ukwu was the only big piece that we thought was coming back this year that ended up transferring out.
Yes, we absolutely lost a lot on offense. Despite those losses, they still had us in their preseason top 25. I was talking about what might have changed from then to now.
Hopefully the transfers we brought in on offense in addition to Black finally being healthy should really help offset those losses to a degree. The fact that our Oline is intact is absolutely huge and could really help the offense to stay productive.
