Sam Houston went on a big run in the first half and never let up. Beat UTU 78-53. Responded nicely to their loss at Southern.

Congratulations on beating NMSU. Looking forward to next week's game.

We won the pillow fight!

I gotta wonder what's going on at NMSU. In year's past, they lose a player and there's someone ready to make his place. There has to be something going on internally. Certainly there's a huge off-court distraction, but seems like there's something else.

I too am looking forward to UTRGV. I gotta wonder why the WAC hates us. We play SFA during the student break, host the first three of four conference games over the break, play Tarleton on the road with decent travel opportunities, UTRGV on a Thursday, no home contest against Abilene Christian, host two Utah schools in the heart of February and go to the two preseason favs in GCU and NMSU at the start of the spring semester.

Meanwhile, we are off to our worst conference start since 1988/89, where we went 0-7 to start on our way to a 4-10 finish. I see a lot of parallels to a couple of players on our team, to some on that team. UTA's all-time leading scorer Willie Brand was a sophomore on that squad. Shemar Wilson is a sophomore. On of UTA's better interior players was Bobby Kenyon. He was a freshman then, similar to Brandon Walker now. Chendall Weaver is also a sophomore. Our guards are a mix of juniors and seniors, but three of the four top scoring guards are coming back.

BTW, looked like a great atmosphere in Riverside on TV tonight. The WAC may be the most underrated basketball conference.

This group of Aggies refuse to work together for 40 minutes. No team chemistry and a lot of alphas who think they can win games all by themselves. And GH has been too much of a "player's coach" to be heavy handed with their discipline unlike Jans.

Some Aggies fans will remain patient until next season. But others are already asking for Heiar's head.

Your broadcast crew said this was the worst conference start since the mid-50's. I can understand their disappointment.

UTA started 3-0 in the SBC in our exit year. Dropped a turd the rest of the way. No one wants to go to a new conference on a down beat.

Still a lot of basketball left.

I believe this is their first year as a full D1 member. They completed their transition period over the summer. They have have been very impressive in basketball (mens and womens) even during their transition. They are a team not to be taken lightly and I would put them as a dark horse to win the conference in Mens BB this year. Have no clue about womens BB I really do not pay much attention to it at all. They have a nice swanky arena and generally speaking have a very good athletic program all around. They are also a top candidate for the WCC and will probably replace BYU in that conference. Seattle U may also leave for the WCC, but as long as Gonzaga is in that conference, it will most likely not happen. Oh and its a Baptist University in California...thats what I know about Cal Baptist...hope that helps.

It was nice to finally get the win against ACU...been awhile. Was a hard fought game as I expected. Game went down to the wire, I was afraid you guys were going to come back at the end. We have a few key injuries at the moment so I do not have confidence against anyone until we get them back. Glad to have both you have SFA as conference mates.04-cheers

Edit..... If we still have the girl from Latvia on our tennis team, WATCH OUT.....That girl is bad asssssss!

What? You have girls NOT from Latvia? We usually have no more than one USA or English speaking girl each year at Arlington. Tennis has become a passport and visa required college sport. It appears that lots of foreign players take advantage of lax NCAA rules that allow semi-pros. Our boys team has one each from Japan, Ecuador, Canada, India, New Zealand and Spain, plus three from Argentina. Girls have one each from Spain, Paraguay, Romania, Slovenia, Lithuania, Ecuador, Norway and Chile. No current US citizens on either squad this year.

Smith played although not at full strength yet, but getting there.

Freddie Hicks was suited out but did not play in the game. He is getting close to returning.

I like the return to the old rivalry, and the nearness you are to us. There is a lot more to central west Texas than people think (anything west of DFW is considered west Texas to many.) Looking forward to your new super coliseum -- it should be special. I love our reworked Moody, so comfortable.

When we play tennis against each other, it will indeed be like an international event, the players come from all over. But for that matter, we get a lot of foreign born basketball players.

I have not checked in awhile, but I think on our tennis team we have a girl from Greece, and I think Spain. On our basketball team, the last foreign born player I remember was back in 2013, when we had a guy from Bratislava on our team. I can not recall any since then, but I could be wrong.

Just checked our men's tennis team: 2 from Spain, Hungary, England, and that foreign area call Illinois, and some Americans. The women are 3 from Spain, British Colombia, Mexico, Bolivia, and an American or two. Basketball is three from Australia, Italy, Sweden, and a bunch from the States. The Ladies do have the high school female athlete of the year (last year) in Texas, a young lady who played boys football, basketball, and golf. When I played I thought we had a young man from another planet but he was a New Jersey kid.

I guess it is pretty easy to get these foreign players because they do not have athletics associated with university in most countries. And to get a free ride to college in the US even if it is not a P5 school is a very attractive option.

Yeah, it's pretty common for tennis and golf players to be from foreign countries. My dad was a multi year state champ in tennis back in the day and he only got juco offers to play tennis because of all the foreigners that dominate the sport.

BTW: Congrats on getting your golf team going. You have a pretty good course nearby but I cannot remember the name of it. Fun to play though (and to ring the bell if I remember correctly.)

Sugar Tree is the course you're talking about, it is about 30-45 mins away between Lipan and Brock! It's a fun and tough course to play!
