They aren't a fit the same reason App State or Coastal aren't. There's just not enough upward potential. They're already at their limit.

Not sure if that's true. NDSU's viewership numbers are nothing to sneeze at. Adding NDSU would tap viewership in North and South Dakota, with a combined population of ~1.5 million and no NFL or other professional teams to compete with for eyeballs.

Why would you include SD?

Congrats and THANKS to Tulane!!!

Yes the AAC is special. Some of us, even at inception, knew this was a great lineup and would high achieve. They may skim off our top from time to time, but the AAC will continue to achieve.

Since the AAC began back in 2013...only 1 other G5 Conf has ever won a BCS/NYD6 Bowl Game while AAC has dominated earning top G5 spot.

Appearances with winners in BOLD
2013: AAC's UCF beat #6 Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl*
2014: MWC's Boise State beat #10 Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl

2015: MAC's Western Michigan lost in the Cotton Bowl to Wisconsin
2016: AAC's Houston beats FSU in the Peach Bowl
2017: AAC's UCF beats Auburn in the Peach Bowl
2018: AAC's UCF loses to LSU in the Fiesta Bowl
2019: AAC's Memphis loses to Penn State in the Cotton Bowl
2020: AAC's Cincinnati loses to Georgia in the Peach Bowl
2021: AAC's Cincinnati loses to Alabama in the CFP Semi-Final Cotton Bowl
2022: AAC's Tulane beats USC in the Cotton Bowl

*In 2013...AAC still held the Big East BCS spot during the final year of the BCS as UCF went undefeated in conf play and earned that spot while also being higher ranked than any G5 team.

ever heard of airplanes?

NDSU is 166-13 w 10 Natl Titles. They would help AAC rankings to get that #1 CFP spot

NDSU is a R1 academic school how many AAC's are? NDSU is a Land Grant school. how MANY AAC's are?

NDSU is a regional school you get alot of Minnesota with the Dakotas.

16 active NFL players for NDSU. how's that rank w AACs?

It's about eyeballs. There are only about 30 of them in the whole state.

NDSU consistently gets 1million plus for playoff games

NDSU SDSU on ABC projected to have 3 million

NDSU has a traveling fanbase. brought 30,000 to Arizona this year

I'd say both the appearances and wins matter. The fact that the AAC has had 7 of the 9 applicable years and every representative since 2016 is itself significant. Will that change now that the schools responsible for five of those seven are leaving? Maybe, but Tulane provided a strong argument against the Sun Belt arguments that Troy is better and I think that will be the starting point when it comes to rankings. That's a reason why the win was important: Tiebreaker will still go to the AAC.

I WILL be impressed if tomorrow's game gets 3 million.
Previous FCS Championship on ABC 2.69 million...on a Saturday...if you beat that going in the teeth of the final week of NFL, head-to-head against multiple games with playoff implications? Yes I'll be impressed with that. If it breaks 2 million, good, OTA SHOULD be, but good to very good, not great.

1 million plus for playoff games? Meh. Over 1 million on ESPN2 is good...and championships without NDSU do that too. 1-2 million on ESPN is good, not great. It's like saying "1 million plus for a bowl game." AAC ain't impressed.
