Let's see here. One of these is not the like others. Guess which.

Quote:Most accurate 2021 crime rates for Memphis, TN. Your chance of being a victim of violent crime in Memphis is 1 in 41 and property crime is 1 in 17

Most accurate 2021 crime rates for Cincinnati, OH. Your chance of being a victim of violent crime in Cincinnati is 1 in 113 and property crime is 1 in 27.

Nice call on the game…

Nice one.

I don’t mean that in a bad way. At all. It’s just unlike any other P5 university that I can think of.

I think race is playing a bigger role than most think.

I think it has more to do with the reputation of the city itself than the university. Memphis is it own worst enemy most of the time.

I started a thread titled just that (THE REPUTATION OF A CITY) last year --even BEFORE we were not #2 on everybodys list ---and before Calkins article suggesting the same.

YEAH--and less and less every year---as the playoffs increase --they will matter even less------------however bowls matter most to our AD and administration ---6-6 record and a BOWL is all that matters

Academics don't mean a DAMNED thing, especially if we are to ignore the Pac-12 and Big Ten, two conferences that are a nonstarter for us.

The ACC, which has a higher academic profile than the Big XII, took on Louisville when their freaking accreditation was in jeopardy.

The only thing that matters is bringing a large enough market share so that it positively enhances media rights contracts. As is always the case, follow the money.

There was one going on back then or are you thinking of what happened a few years ago? The issue that happened a few years ago wasn't directly due to academics.

Louisville was surging. Won the sugar bowl in 2013. Won basketball national championship in 2013 (since vacated). Their academics aren’t great (ranked better than ours), but they were just too hot to pass up at that time. They had fairly recently built and later expanded their football stadium (sound familiar) before getting into the ACC.

Academics are important unless someone just knock the cover off in sports. We’re just not doing it. Our program has regressed big time.

Tulane and SMU would be way above us in the ACC pecking order.

Obviously, it’s not about fan bases. Does anyone care about Houston?
Houston has greatly improved their BB and FB programs. They also live in a media market that is 6 times the size of Memphis.

..but but but we were told repeatedly that the BIG12 didn't want Houston--would never choose Houston---NO MATTER WHAT

Ironic since the Big East broke up because Tulane got invited to join.

Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF, and Tulane today are all fine. You are the doorstop who thinks a 6-6 MAC team should be in the playoff AND get a home game against a top 5 team.

Typical of Simple Jack. Lied about talking to Hargrave, lied about being at the MSU game, lying about paying for tickets, lying about this. Not bright enough to make any of the lies semi plausible.

What does Tulane have coming back for next season? I guess we can always hope that their coach gets hired away....

:pbjtime:But if they keep winning and going to big time bowl games then they will build more interest in their program and increase their fan base. That will increase their contributions and in turn result in better players which in turn will increase more wins and more recognition and off they go to a P5 conference.

I think race is playing a bigger role than most think.

If it actually matters to the P5 conferences that only 50% of the students at the University of Memphis are white, that's a pretty sad state of affairs.
:cheers:Very sad since way more than 50% of our teams are black.
