Owens-Barnett playing like she did in the first few games. Scoring and assisting. 54-52 Rice.

What a quarter from Owens-Barnett. Gives Rice a 56-53 lead with 2:45 left.

Two Fisher FTs and then Owens-Barnett draws a charge. 58-53 Rice, 1:48 left. Rice ball.

RE: WBB vs. UTEP
60-53 Rice with 38 seconds left. Weird last 30 seconds by UTEP's coaching staff. Have to either press aggressively there or start fouling. But I'm not complaining.

Owens-Barnett and Fisher have been huge down the stretch.

Free throw shooting the difference in this one-- Rice 20-24; UTEP 12-20

Fisher (12 point, 11 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Owens-Barnett carried us during 4Q.

RE: WBB vs. UTEP
Owens-Barnett caps off the quarter by hitting two FTs. 62-53 Rice final. Gonna be honest, I thought we were dead and buried early in the game. Didn't like the effort levels. But great response and great finish. Big contributions from Gooden and Owens-Barnett. Fisher and Jackson were solid.

Showed poise down the stretch this time, due in large part to only 1 turnover in the 4Q.

RE: WBB vs. UTEP
I was prepared to say bad things about the team’s attitude but then at least some of them decided they didn’t want to lose again and made the effort needed in the 4th. Maybe that bit of leadership will reignite the early-season fire.

Great finish and good to be back in the W column where we belong!!

Also WKU no slouch played MTSU tough this afternoon losing in the end by just 5.

WK will be a contender (alongside Rice) for a top 3 seed most likely.

Sidebar: how was the Owl Pep Band?
Big, rocking, brassy sound?
Modern arrangements?

I almost answered this question on the WKU game thread, but I didn’t listen to the WKU game.

I did listen to the MTSU game last week and I noticed the BOP on the radiocast. Sounded mostly generic to me but sounded like they did an ok job of setting the mood. Made it sound like a basketball game.

Not a Rice game. More like a high school game.

So pretty “meh”, but not as bad as I’d been led to expect.

I did not hear them at all on this afternoon’s game. I was focused on a home improvement task so if they played I might not have heard.

The announcer did slip in the postgame when he said (a member of) the MOB, then corrected to Owl Pep Band, stuck around to play Auld Lang Syne after the game.
Could not hear it on the crowd mic though.

But you want to know who has a pretty awful band? UTEP. They sounded dreadful on the mens game radio broadcast this afternoon from El Paso.

Nice that someone played "Auld Lang Syne".
Thanks for the report.

I wonder how an all drum group would sound like at a soccer game.
