Just my opinion of course. There is more to getting a good grade than having FSU and Miami factored into the equation, it’s about the watchability that involves certain intangibles like tradition, hype, rivalry, drama, evenness.
“A” FSU vs Miami - even when these teams are unranked, we watch for the hard hits, wide rights, fights and spectacular endings.
“C+” GT vs Duke - the casual fan does not realize that this game has history and lately there has been pretty good games, but with neither team standing out, it’s usually over looked.
“B+” NCSU vs UNC - I like this game, the hate by both sides is very real. Nationally overshadowed on rivalry weekend, but by far the best ACC vs ACC game on that day.
“C+” UL vs Wake - This game would be a dud if it was not for “Wakey Leaks”. The ACC fell bass ackwards in an unlikely pairing. It also helps that both schools are close-ish in proximity.
“B” VT vs GT - this will be one of those unfortunate casualties in going divisionless. In its hey-day when you had nationally ranked teams playing and whining Frank Beamer, this was a fun game and one of the best ACC games of the year. My favorite moment was seeing Sean Glennon wearing a GT uniform during the game, that summarized the ACC in a snapshot.
“D” UL vs UVA - obviously a forced rivalry game, many of the games have been close, but I’m not feeling it. This game is pushed way down the list of importance for both teams.
“C+” Clem vs SU - there have been a handful of close games during Clemson’s dominant run including a win by SU. This is one of those games that could become something special with age, but divisionless will keep this from becoming annual. Nonetheless, casual fans that just want to plop down in front of the tv and route for the dogs should have this one circled.

The ACC, as usual, is missing another opportunity to grow conference football. Why they continue to push the UVa UofL game while a VaTech UofL game would be a real rivalry is lost on everyone but the idiots in the conference office.
Thankfully the Wake UofL game won’t happen but once every three years now. Not listening to Clawson whine every season is a blessing.

As you can see, I left a lot of games off the list. I was hoping others would fill in some gaps or dispute the grades, but I’ll add a few more and see if we can get some more comments:
“B” UNC vs Duke - in the last 10 years or more this game has gone back and forth, credit to David Cutcliffe for making Duke competitive again. When it comes to trophy games, the Victory Bell is probably the best. An ACC gem of a game that gets overlooked nationally.
“C+” NCSU vs Clemson - I like this game, but the results are usually predictable; NCSU battles hard but falls short. If NCSU can get over the hump, this game could get a lot more national attention.
“C+” Miami vs VT - this game had a lot more meaning in the Big East, both schools were at the top of their game and the winner had a chance to play for a national championship. It’s been 20 years since Miami was good and VT in the last 10 years have been stuck in mediocrity. It’s still a good game, but just a shadow of it once was.
“D+” Wake vs FSU - I find it difficult to grade FSU games through the eyes of a casual fan because I have a bias toward my own team. My thoughts on Wake is that they are an annoyance; I hate losing to Wake more than like beating them. Even after all of these years, all the back and forth series, I still find it hard to get hyped for this game. No disrespect to Wake, I think Wake vs other private schools is more interesting.
