Woodbury, a senior guard, was named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week after a standout performance for Utah Valley in a 77-72 win at Oregon on Dec. 20. Woodbury led the Wolverines with 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting, which included a 3-for-4 effort on 3-point attempts, to go along with nine rebounds, six assists and three steals over 37 minutes of game play.

He is also the WAC Player of the Week.

Nine rebounds by a guard is pretty unusual, but the stats Woodbury put up deserve the National Attention. 6 assists are wonderful. UVU looks very stout.

He’s one of the better rebounding guards I’ve seen. He’s 6’4” and strong. You’ll definitely see him sky in among the big guys and come out with the ball. He’s averaging over 5 rebounds a game, so he’s definitely not just picking up a few long balls that happen come his way.

He’s been one of my favorite WAC players over the last few seasons.

WAC Players of the Week really haven’t had much mention this season, but Utah Valley had 3 different players receive the honor in December.

Trey Woodbury, Sr. G, Utah Valley (Dec. 27)
Justin Johnson, Sr. F, UTRGV (Dec. 19)
Aziz Bandaogo, So., C, Utah Valley (Dec. 12)
Le’Tre Darthard, Jr., G, Utah Valley (Dec. 5)

Justin Johnson of RGV was also POV one week in November as the only 2 time honoree so far this season.

Parsa Fallah of Southern Utah has been Freshman of the Week twice. He played a key roll in Southern Utahs narrow loss at Kansas.

Justin Johnson looked snakebit at Utah Tech. 5 points, 1 rebound, and sat out most of the second half even though he only had 1 foul.

I watched that game. Johnston played well though. That made up for some of Johnson not doing much. Johnson doesn’t seem to be a hot or cold player like some can be, and has been pretty consistent for you.

Woodbury could be up for another POW award. Versus Utah Tech he had 20 points and was 8 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3. He had 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 5 assists.

He is so good at getting open. He moves well without the ball and eventually most teams really have trouble keeping track of him.
