RE: JMU @ Ga State hoops
Every time I try to get into JMU basketball I can't make it through much more than one half. This is not good basketball.

JMU @ Ga State hoops
Been awhile since ive seen a coach manhandle a player like that . Would love to have had a seat nearby to hear that conversation.

I think we are definitely leading the league in missed dunks. And our free throw shooting still sucks when we need them. Great against D3 teams

Looks like Hudson on GA State is heading to the locker room after getting a technical. His 4th foul and Jonas Hayes was grabbing his jersey and having some strong words with him on the sideline.

This game is hard to watch. I can’t tell anything about either team, other than they both play hard. The color commentator is special.

It has been an ugly game but I love Freidel’s hustle on rebounds and loose balls.

Well, that was a rock fight but it was a good outcome. Think the Dukes were up double digits most of the second half even though it didn’t feel that way

Certainly not a clinic on offense, yet it is a convincing win on the road.
I still have no clue what the rotation is going to look like. Good to see Nacho finishing a lot at the rim. That will be a big additional weapon if he can be more assertive driving.

Fake GSU looked like they had a lot of athleticism, but very few basketball players.

Chalk up win #1

Ugly win, but an important one. Ten turnovers in the first half and lousy shooting would normally equate to being behind on the scoreboard. Fortunately defense travels.

JMU was much quicker and more athletic, and fake GSU had no answer for JMU’s smothering man defense. JMU was also deeper, and the bench definitely wore down the Panthers. This team is so much more rewarding to watch!

No Vado tonight. I understand he was I’ll, but does anyone have any news that’s more detailed about his status?

RE: JMU @ Ga State hoops
I’m not sure how many games JMU has ever won with only 6 assists, but I’m guessing it is very few. Then you look at Ga State and see they only had 3 assists. Hahaha. James Naismith is rolling over in his grave.

I thought JMU played good not great defense tonight but it is easy to see why Ga State is one of the worst shooting teams in the nation.

Are the Dukes coming home tonight or are they going straight to Marshall? It would be interesting to know how many of these SunBelt road swings they will fly and how many they will drive. It is an 8 hour drive from Atlanta to Huntington. Not exactly what you want to do for the second game of a Thursday - Saturday road trip. All I can envision is a bunch of tall basketball players with knees in their chest for an extended bus ride.

I’d guess home for a night, then Marshall on Saturday.

Maybe they can stop in Knoxville or Lexington and convince someone to let them practice tomorrow and then make the rest of the trip up to Huntington. Going all the way back to Harrisonburg and over the mountain seems like a lot of excess time on the bus.

RE: JMU @ Ga State hoops
I also wonder if Friedel is ever going to get back on track. He was supposed to be a plug and play guy to take over the role Chuck Falden played last year. Not only was Falden an excellent shooter, but he was clutch too by making them when the game was on the line. We are getting close to the halfway point of the year and Friedel is shooting a terrible 33% FG and only 31% 3pt. As of now, he isn’t coming close to filling big shot Chuck’s shoes.
If the Dukes are going to fulfill their potential, Friedel needs to get back to the 40% range from 3pt territory that he produced in 3 years at South Dakota State.

Dukes flew directly into Huntington this evening via Fulton Co (GA) airport.

A convincing road win where:
Vado did not play &
Edwards was a non factor.
I'll take it

HCMB said in the post game that he warmed up but was too sick to go. Hoped he would be able to play Saturday. He didn't elaborate on his illness though.

RE: JMU @ Ga State hoops
I hope it doesn't spread through the rest of the team!

Not the prettiest win but I expect we'll see plenty of those. We play high pressure defense to force mistakes and turnovers, then we like to run and play fast on offense so it makes sense there'll be games where it seems like both sides are just really sloppy. Would really really like to see some more reliable three point shooting though. Gotta think things will start to even out at some point for Freidel especially. We didn't chuck as many tonight though so were able to win comfortably despite a low percentage. 3-14 while GSU was 4-21.

Honestly with our defense and all the scoring ability we have along with the playmaking of guys like Strickland, Edwards, and Nacho we shouldn't really need to rely on threes unless the other team just gets red hot. Having Freidel as a consistent deadly threat would just make us that much harder to defend though.

Certainly don't think I've seen them oriented that way before. It's a bit wierd.

I noticed this mid-game when we were shooting FTs and the camera behind the glass was broadcasting which showed the SBC logos appearing left-to-right so I guess that's why they did it that way

Noticed that also. On full court video it looks really strange though, and don't think I've seen any other schools do this, in SBC or other major conferences.

On the one hand, it sort of seems like a mistake. On the other hand, hard to believe someone would accidentally mess up a prominent feature. Guess somebody at GSU thought it was clever.

Beauty is in the eye's of the beholder...some of us like "ugly". Some folks like the "beauty of the game" (think coach Tony Bennett). "ugly" can win a lot of mid-major basketball games.
