From St. Petersburg Times, 1/14/03:

Sworn complaints filed against three Gators

GAINESVILLE -- Police have filed sworn complaints against Florida tackle Mo Mitchell, linebacker Brian Crum and defensive back/wide receiver Channing Crowder for ripping mirrors off cars early Sunday morning.

Gainesville police spokesman Keith Kameg said eight complaints were filed. The teammates could be charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief or, because the damage was in excess of $1,000, could face felony charges.

This is the second offense for Mitchell, who was cited by university police for an open container violation in August. He missed eight days during the season when he went home to Albany, Ga., for personal reasons and drew athletic director Jeremy Foley's ire when he tried to leave the field before the end of the UF-FSU game.

State attorney Bill Cervone said he had not received the complaint, but because Mitchell has been in trouble before, the case will warrant closer scrutiny.

"I would look at it differently than somebody who was a first offender," Cervone said. "I would also look at a prior open container type of violation differently than I would somebody who has created a serious offense."

Coach Ron Zook said he won't take action until he has the facts.

Freshman receiver Antoine Sharp, meanwhile, will transfer. Sharp of Jacksonville Bolles played in three games and caught two passes for 9 yards. South Florida is among schools he is considering.
