Mike Leach not eligible for Hall of Fame
For a stupid reason.
Did not win 60% of his games.
Currently sits at 59.6% winning percentage.
Lotta folks pushing for this to change.

Sadden by his loss, but if he had retired instead of dying would we be having this conversation?

Emotions should not be a part of the induction criteria.

There are a lot of coaches in the NFL Hall of Fame who have innovations that revolutionized football. 4-3 defense creator, West Coast Offense, etc etc.
Mike Leach is a coach that has pioneered a wide open style of offense that has taken college football by storm, # of wins shouldn't matter in this instance.

Hal Mumme a high school coach from E Texas was the father of the Air Raid offense.

Cal is famous for the dribble drive offense but he didn't create it.

Leach's coaching tree is far more extensive than Hal Mumme's.
They came up with the offense together. It wasn't all on one guy, like the Run and Shoot with Glenn "Tiger" Ellison.

RE: Mike Leach not eligible for Hall of Fame
Also, compare their coaching resumes after they split up working together.
Mike Leach's offenses thrived wherever he went. His teams failed to win 6 games only 3 times in his career. (in 22 years)
Hal Mumme on the other hand...won 6 or more games only 5 times after Leach left his staff. (the 15 years of coaching without Leach)
After Mumme was on his own..none of his New Mexico State teams cracked the 400 yard barrier...his Southwestern Louisiana teams did it 9 times in 2 seasons.
You would need a calculator to add up the number of times that Leach's teams racked up 400 or more yards at Texas Tech, Washington State, and Mississippi State.

I mean, if you could argue LaVell Edwards, as far as that goes.
But when you hear other coaches talk about it, they talk about Leach - not Mumme or LaVell.
