Alabama State exist in Montgomery now so using a combo of their name for Miles would create confusion.

If Alabama A&M - Birmingham happens Miles college might have a big problem. Yet, if Miles just became Alabama State- Birmingham than that should cushion them fine. Alabama State and Alabama A&M could easily run satellite schools in Birmingham of 2,000 or so students with athletics, it would make for a nice rivalry

They could do like Rutgers and be Miles, the State University of Alabama.

Miles College is a private college & HBCU, much like Stillman and Tuskegee, (which are private colleges like Duke & Miami) and I seriously doubt that Miles would want to give up their campus and independence to merge with either Alabama A&M or Alabama State. If Alabama A&M gets a branch campus in Birmingham, Miles College might see about offering more majors or cutting tuition, but that's it.
FYI, Miles College is a local, friendly rival of my alma mater, the University of Montevallo, and I love our friendly rivalry!!
