I hope they don't. Just more taxpayer money to piss away on this nonsense. I wish we could put catapults along the border to sling them back over.

If you read the thread though, you should get the impression that what this has been for democrats is a whole lot of talk designed to influence voters, but no real action... no investment... no dollars, other than those they can personally benefit from.

The whole point of this action would be to call them out on their BS.

NY knows damn well FEMA isn't going to approve their dollars... for the very reason I mentioned... and if they do, FEMA will be bankrupt in literally a day.... the charges would be LOUD and impossible for ANYONE to ignore if NYC got money but El Paso, San Diego, LA, Chicago, Houston, Miami etc etc etc did not.... and Congress will have to act in some way. Remember, these costs are just the 'extra' that these municipalities are seeking... not 'wll that they spend' on the issues.

The sum of all the 'demands' would probably be something like a trillion dollars.... and this wouldn't be a one-time request, but one that is ongoing.... and all of a sudden, the cost of a border wall with technological and human oversight will seem like the biggest bargain we've ever engaged in.

What you CAN'T do is let them quietly give NYC a billion, then Chicago... then whomever their favorite cities are... doled out like party favors to invited guests... This needs to be a loud NATIONAL DEMAND for equality/equal treatment.... and if Democrat controlled areas are the ones seeking money, so much the better.

yes, there is some risk that they decide to just 'print money', but I think on the heels of Bidenflation, there will be a MASSIVE political price to be paid for this.

If I were reps, I'd use this filing to line up both rep and dem controlled cities/states to make an informal request for the same treatment from FEMA. Force the issue NOW. Not the decision, but make it clear what door is being opened and what the response will be from both sides. I know Dem Senators and The White House won't like this, but the Mayors of El Paso, San Diego, San Antonio, Houston, Chicago, Phoenix et al sure will.

Absolutely superb post laying out the emergency border funding trap the Biden* Administration has found itself ensnared in.

They have deliberately engaged their INSANE "open border" practices down at the southern border while arguing in DC that "the border is secure". Anyone who is not blind can see the chaos down on the TX-NM-AZ-CA border that is escalating exponentially on a weekly basis.

Criminals and illicit drugs are POURING into the USA under the Biden* Administration BULLS HIT border policies. These are MASSIVE illicit businesses; there are VAST sums of money made on human trafficking and drugs. Make no mistake - the Big Guy wants his 10% cut of that action.

The red words in Hambone's post above are the hard TRUTH.

Why a billion? Pretty conveniently round number? Like a blindfold and dart board.

What exactly …. Exactly…. Does 1 Billion do? Where is every penny of that 1 Billion going to be used for this crisis. Let us see the accounting sheet for that ask?

Mayor of El Paso Declares State of Emergency, Says City Is 'Not Safe'

Quote:With Title 42 set to end in just days, El Paso’s Democrat Mayor Oscar Leeser declared a state of emergency Saturday. The city has already seen a massive surge in illegal immigration since August, and at this point Mayor Leeser says the city isn’t safe — for illegal immigrants, at least. That will only worsen when the number of people apprehended for crossing illegally goes from 2,500 a day to “4,000, 5,000, maybe 6,000,” and with the emergency declaration the city will be eligible for the additional funding it will need to address the humanitarian needs during an extreme cold snap.

Leeser held a press conference Thursday in which he said he wasn’t declaring the state of emergency just yet, but that he would if he felt the city wasn’t safe for either “asylum seekers” or residents. His reasoning for not doing so was almost entirely political, though. He said he’d been able to get the needed funds without declaring a state of emergency, and that he “doesn’t want Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to be involved in how El Paso handles the situation.” According to the New York Post, Leeser has previously admitted that the White House asked him to not declare a state of emergency, which didn’t sit well with City Council member Claudia Rodriguez. She told the New York Post:

“There is no logical reason for him not to declare an emergency other than El Paso is the sixth largest city in the states of Texas and if El Paso declares an emergency, then that means that the border is not secure and there’s something bigger going on and the whole narrative of a ‘secure border’ falls apart.”

And, Rodriguez said that Leeser said of Abbott:

“He has told me himself that the governor is very difficult to work with and that he’s going to come into El Paso and militarize the entire operation.”

During the press conference another City Council member, Isabel Salcido, said:

“I still urge the mayor… I know it’s to his discretion, but I still urge [him] to declare an emergency.”

After Leeser said that an emergency declaration wouldn’t expedite getting funding to the city, the Deputy City Manager disagreed, saying:

“That declaration allows the state to open additional funding outside of their normal budget,”

Leeser then abruptly ended the press conference. His tune changed by Saturday, obviously.

Leeser said:

“As we see the increase in asylum seekers into our community and we see the temperatures dropping and we know that Title 42 looks like it’s gonna be called back on Wednesday, we felt that it was the proper time today to call a state of emergency.

“I said from the beginning that I would call it when I felt that either our asylum seekers or our community were not safe, and I really believe that today our asylum seekers are not safe, as we have hundreds and hundreds on the streets, and that’s not the way we want to treat people. And by calling a state of emergency it gives us the ability today to be able to do things we couldn’t do until we called it, and that’s our shelters and put people in shelters and make sure they’re safe.”

Leeser is one of the many Democrat elected officials suddenly concerned about a crisis at the border and putting their hand out asking for funding – California’s Gavin Newsom prime among them.

New York City Council Caucus Urges Biden to Declare ‘Emergency’ Over Migrant Crisis

Quote:A group of bipartisan New York City Council members is asking President Joe Biden to declare a federal emergency, saying that doing so would free up funding for the city’s boroughs to handle the migrant crisis, according to the New York Post.

Six Republicans and two Democrats in the Council’s “Common Sense Caucus” made their request in a letter sent to Biden and other Washington officials. They said an emergency declaration could help New York City Mayor Eric Adams obtain $1 billion in funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“These services, which have already cost our taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars, are only growing as more buses of migrants arrive each day. We are asking the President to declare the asylum seeker crisis an emergency so that FEMA may reimburse New York City for the entire costs of addressing it,” the letter says, referring to the illegal immigrant wave as an asylum seeker crisis.

Adams, a Democrat, suggested the $1 billion cost for providing shelter and other services to migrants in early October when he declared a state of emergency over the illegal immigration crisis. He said at the time that some 17,000 migrants had been bused to his city from the southern U.S. border since April.

That number of migrants has since increased to more than 31,000, Adams said on Dec. 18.

According to the New York Post, New York City Hall submitted a $1 billion request to FEMA in November and the request for funding is currently pending.

The Council members’ letter also wanted the federal government to extend the COVID-19 pandemic-era Title 42 border policy. According to the outlet, their request was addressed to Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

The aforementioned officials need to “come up with a bipartisan fix that closes the border and fixes the immigration processing issue,” according to the letter.

“This crisis is too large and too important to be ignored,” the letter says. “We implore you to take immediate action to protect the rights and well-being of the asylum seekers and the safety of the citizens of New York City.”
