He played sparingly in three games this year. 5 catches for 43 yards. His last game was on 10/22.

tOSU has two 1,000+ yard receivers this year.

nope, I've had zero issue with any Tigers opting out. An athlete has a finite time to make the cheddar.

Yeah, I mean, if someone is telling him you're going to be a top whatever pick and he's cool with that then why risk it? OTOH I wouldn't feel bad for him if he had an NIL deal and that person then sued under breach (assuming it had language re: playing when available, etc). Prob never happen though because the school/booster will get a rep for suing players which would hurt them in the long run.

So we got an entire thread about some receiver who probably wasn’t going to play anyway ? As far as college football being dead it will never die as long as people continue to watch it. The lure of good ol “State U” trumps all.

What would you do? Risk millions to play for free/pennies on the dollar to make a school/coach/TV company more rich? Nah. Get the money, protect yourself

If I'm an NFL team, I'm not hiring a player who is afraid to do his job because he might get hurt. If he is that fragile, let my opponents field him.

Think the issue you left out was not willing to get hurt "for far less then I will make in six months" and tbh most owners/GMs hate that their players play in pickup, charity, or exhibition games because of the same reason. If he thought there was an advantage to playing I'm sure he would. Obviously, he crunched the numbers and its not worth the risk. Cest la vie.

Someone smarter than us will figure out if they structure the higher profile NIL deals differently, this type of thing can be mitigated.

Or maybe they’re so smart they already built this type of scenario into the contract details.

These kids are employees now. Change my mind.

But they always were employees..except the ones that didn't get paid.

We didn't always get to bet on them so easily, though. That really changed.

“When the fun stops, stop” used to be the gambling warning in 2016...lol now it's more like this
Oct 27, 2022 article in NYP
Apple said it has temporarily pulled gambling ads from the iPhone’s App Store after casino games appeared in the “you may also like” section alongside children’s games and gambling addiction recovery apps.

The move comes after Apple introduced new ad spaces on the App Store on Tuesday, and developers soon realized they were flooded with online casinos, and sports and horse betting apps.

The issue got attention on Twitter when an ad for “Jackpot World” appeared as a suggested app below RecoverMe, an app designed to help users recover from a gambling addiction.

Yet NFL teams sit players at the end of the season for those same reasons.

I’m talking real cash. You might be surprised how many got paid even 20+ years ago

My friends father now in his late 50s played for a pac team— just an offensive lineman he was . He got paid cash. 1500 was all, but still he was nothing special by his own admission

And NBA players seem to take off 20% of the season anymore for "load management"...

Yup and the NFL doesn't have to pay for a development league
