Other games - football championship weekend
UTSA pulled away from UNT 48-27 last night to be the first of 5 G5 league champions to “qualify” for the NY6.

Utah upset Rice’s opening day opponent USC 47-24.

This morning TCU’s out to a 7-0 lead against K State.

If TCU’s lead holds, then it will guarantee that half of the ten FBS conference championship will have shared conference history with Rice.

Later, the AAC and MWC title games both pair former CUSA and WAC conference mates of ours.

At the half: KState 14, TCU 10.

Not that Tulane needs SOS help, but if KState wins the B12 then Tulane’s win at KState looks even better.

Obviously TCU needs the win to earn that CFP spot.

TCU storming back from down 11 to force OT.

3rd and goal for them at the 1 in the first OT possession…

And the frogs go 0-2 from the 1.

KState can win it with a FG

And UCF returns the favor!
Knights stop em on downs at their own 32!

4 plays 9 yards and UCF is back in business!

I’ve seen Tulane get away with that before but this time UCF was up to the task!

Third time is the charm!

UCF converts the 4th and 1 this time, on the way to an 8 play 32 yard touchdown drive.

UCF 7- Tulane 10.

We got us a ball game!

Never underestimate the power of Alabama and the SEC when it comes to the playoffs.

It probably won't happen but I'm telling you, the Big 12 is overrated this season. I expect TCU to get destroyed by Georgia.

Tulane was up 31-14 early in the 4th.
Now one fumble and two drives later it’s just 31-28.

Close game alert!!!

Both my rankings, as well as the Massey Composite, have the P5 conferences as follows:

1. SEC
2. Big 12
3. PAC 12
4. B1G
5. ACC

SEC and Big 12 are well ahead of the others.

Here's my breakdown, listing the average rating in parentheses, as well as the non-conference win-loss record:

1. SEC (37.4040) 49-7
2. Big 12 (33.7275) 25-5
3. PAC 12 (19.3535) 26-10
4. B1G (18.2033) 33-9
5. ACC (7.1518) 36-18

Why are you assuming TCU at #3 and OSU #4. I'm pretty sure it's going to be the reverse, unless the Committee does the unthinkable and picks Alabama over TCU (especially since Tennessee should get any nod over Alabama based not only on H2H, but overall resume). Michigan-OSU in a rematch.

To borrow a phrase from our 46th President, "COME ON MAN!"

I posted elsewhere, I think Rice should fire Mike Bloomgren and let Julie Griswold coach the bowl game, because she is the reason Rice is in a bowl. She has never received one-tenth the credit that she deserves.

And those are the four teams in the playoffs (in that order). Ohio State vs Georgia in the Peach Bowl, and then Michigan vs TCU in the Fiesta Bowl.

Army-Navy 10-10 with under a minute left.

Navy doesn't run the flexbone any more. Basically Gus Malzahn's option out of the shotgun spread. Looks very different from what they've done in the past.
