Peay campus is located in downtown Clarksville, with that community is booming. On a river, some cool restaurants and bars downtown. Eight craft beer breweries in the county. Lot of young people in Clarksville (military families). Very diverse.

Still, this seems a bit bold. Not sure it will fly.

And of course, a famous train station.

Take the last train to FBS
And I'll meet you at the station
You can be here by 2025
'Cause I've made your reservation

Any thread including a Monkees song reference is inherently awesome.

Austin Peay has no business in FBS. Neither does Kennesaw St. for that matter.

Maybe the Missouri State and Chattanooga to SBC might be more attractive? Austin Peay to CUSA might not be bad.

I think the next 2 to CUSA would be SFA and Tarleton St. to fill out the west making 6/6. APSU has MTSU and WKU close by and I doubt they want APSU.

If SBC goes the route of a FCS member over MTSU and WKU, I think Delaware could get that spot. I think they stay at 14 for a while though.

UCA wants FBS, and they are in Conway and practically 30 miles outside of Little Rock. I think they would take one of the spots over SFAU or Tarleton State.

Oher than Liberty, does any private school ever make the leap to FBS?

It's Chattanooga who he repeats over and over. If he ever said Austin Peay it was in one of his long lists w/ 30 names including D-II schools.

I'm guessing the people that think he's so good also believe palm readers, where they keep saying stuff until something applies to you. Then you're in awe when he finally gets to it.

And I thought his monthly invocation of Stony Brook to the MAC as NYC's team was bad enough.

Right now, no. But that's only because Grand Canyon doesn't have a football program right now.

You have clearly never attended a game at either school. Both could CHOOSE to do things differently, but their current choices clearly show FBS is off the table. Villanova games make HS football look big time. Richmond’s stadium is tiny (and stands are mostly empty).

Also, and this might be the most important thing to consider, Richmond sucks donkey balls.

Villanova wanted into ACC as well when the Big East was still a football conference. The ACC is something in their wheelhouse for the academics and all that. They wanted to be in the same conference with Duke and Wake Forest.

They also didn't want to foot the bill for the stadium needed to get into the ACC. Therefore, the ACC refused to consider them. East Carolina would get an ACC invite before Villanova would because ECU has a nice-sized on-campus stadium.

The Big East tried to get Villanova to join their football conference back in the days when they were still a BCS conference. Lol.

Whether coincidence or not, the second round of defections from the Big East began about six months later.

I would say they’d like to be with BC (a traditional rival and peer institution) and local opponents like Pitt and Virginia.

Villanova is probably one of the few that could do it.

Richmond and private-esque William & Mary missed their best opportunity back in the late 70’s.

Personally, I’d love to see Fordham go big-time and play at Yankee Stadium for novelty and their history: Seven Blocks of Granite and Lombardi

If the SBC really wanted to go that big, then why didn’t they take FIU, WKU, MTSU, LA Tech, UTEP, and NMSU? That’s 20 and none of them would be upgrades—all existing FBS members.

I don't mind APSU being close, just need them to show sustained commitment and success. They are saying the right things, but need to actually deliver on the talk before being considered as a real candidate. There seem to be a lot of FCS programs trying to get a seat on perceived the last train to FBS. I don't see a need to expand past 10 unless some of these candidates really distinguish themselves or significantly up the total media payout.
