I could see If they could have gottewn Jacksonville State and Sam Houston State fast track up this year? One of them could have gone 6-6, and New Mexico State may have gotten that extra game with one of them to get bowl eligble.

This is true. Over the past 4 normal seasons we have averaged 81 eligible teams, or 62% of the FBS teams. If there are 134 FBS teams instead of 130 we would expect there to be 83 eligible teams on average. What the CFP would be doing then is replacing the #9-12 teams that would have played in an NY6 game with teams rated #83-86 that will play in mid-December.

The beneficiaries of this are the #12-15 P5 teams that move up to an NY6 slot instead of bowls like the Capital One.

eh- those teams are already going to NY6 games for the most part. Using this weeks projections:
Peach: Georgia/USC
Fiesta: Michigan/TCU
Sugar: Alabama/Kansas St
Cotton: Tennessee/Tulane
Orange: Clemson/Ohio St
Rose: Penn St/Utah

possible that all 12 of those teams would be going to the playoffs.

By definition, teams #12-15 in the final CFP ranking will not be going to the playoffs. If they are going to the playoffs it is because they are ranked #1-11 plus the G5 champ. In the future, of course, it is possible that one or more P5 champions will rank lower than #11.

The point though, is that highly ranked teams will stay home and lowly ranked teams will go bowling.

My point is there won't be much difference at all from what we have now. There would be maybe 1 team difference between the NY6 and the CFP.

As far as the extra bowl slots. That would have happened regardless with the extra teams moving up. Doesn't have a thing to do with the CFP at all.

The 12 teams in the NY6 under the current situation would most likely be the same as the 12 teams invited to the CFP in the new model. What you are saying, in effect, is that the four first round losers in the CFP will accept invitations to the NY6 bowls that aren't part of the CFP quarterfinals in that year. I don't believe that will be the case (though I wish it were).

However many of those first round losers that decline an NY6 invite will either have to be replaced by a team that would not have been one of the top 11 or 12 or those NY6 bowl games will have to drop out of the NY6. I don't think those bowls will give up their NY6 status. What would be problematic is that no one knows which four teams will lose their CFP game when bowl pairings are set. Unless it is a given that first round losers are automatically assigned to a non-QF bowl, not knowing who will accept an invitation holds up the entire process of setting the 41 bowl matchups in a timely way.

I don't really think the NY6 bowls will really exist for other games. I don't think there will be double hosting of games- much as some would want.
