That could allow for a bigger crowd, like say Tulane moving a game from Yulman to the Superdome. Or, maybe it could be used for competitive reasons, if you think you opponent doesn't like playing in the heat, the cold, the rain, etc.

Me, too.

In your first scenario, I'd love to see a team play a CFP home game in a tiny stadium. In Tulane's case, could they sell 70,000 tickets to their own fans for a CFP game in the Superdome, especially if it were against a SEC team? It would be to their advantage to play in their stadium and have tighter control over ticket supply and distribution.

In the second scenario, it's been floated that a B1G team would potentially use Lucas Oil Stadium (for instance) in Indianapolis. Personally, I'd like to see Ohio State or Michigan play a home CFP game in the snow. The elements would be an advantage for a B1G team in December.

I'd be in favor of playing quarterfinal games on home fields, as well.

Also, conference championship games have become useless, so they should be eliminated which will allow the playoffs the start the first weekend in December.

Round 1= first weekend in December on campus
Round 2= second weekend in December on campus
Semifinal = Jan 1 at Rose and sugar bowl
Title game = mid Jan at rotated site

Losers from first two rounds get placed into bowl system

Not going to happen. Ohio St won't be going to the Rose Bowl this year because losers don't travel well. You lose your playoff game, your season is over. What fanbase would want to go from a playoff game to a meaningless bowl game? none. You think you've seen players opt out? wait and see if this happened(which thankfully has no chance in hell of ever happening).

That's just a rumor that the Rose would take #8 PSU over a much better #5 tOSU. The only reason tOSU wouldn't go to the RB would be if they're playing Georgia in the CFP.

There will be a Friday night game... maybe, MAYBE a Thursday night game, but the NFL will have that date too so forget it. Triple header on Saturday. They won't do Tuesday Wednesday MACtion style campus games.

It won't be played on Saturday if that puts it head to head with the NFL unless they have no other choice. Tuesday or Weds game would get a lot better ratings than Thurs/Fri/Sat vs the NFL.

Remember that Big Game the other day that drew 16m viewers? Cowboys-Giants pulled 42m on Thanksgiving Day.

from the release:
For the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the four quarterfinal games and two Playoff Semifinal games will be played in bowls on a rotating basis. The 2024 quarterfinals will take place in the Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, while the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl will host the Playoff Semifinals. The 2025 quarterfinals will take place in the Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl, while the Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl will host the Playoff Semifinals. Specific dates for all quarterfinal and semifinal games will be announced at a later time.

Is that set to be the long-term format, or is that just the format for 2024 and 2025?

I know they had to come up with something the bowls would agree to for 2024 and 2025. But I really hope they don’t play the quarterfinals at neutral sites from 2026 onward.

So some #12 team that might be 8-4 will get to play at a neutral site vs a 12-0 team, under some implication that the teams had an equally good season? And the stadium for the game will probably be a quarter empty? It would be absurd.

If the Big Six bowls start whining about having a game involving teams ranked #13 or lower every other year, then the committee should tell them that they’ll be excluded from the playoff system and have a non-top 12 game every year if they don’t stop whining.

But the only reason it's a rumor is that disappointed Buckeye fans didn't flock to the Rose Bowl last year after losing to Michigan.

The last 5 non-covid Rose Bowls had attendance of:

94k 2016
95k 2017
92k 2018
91k 2019
87k 2022

No telling what that would have been like without Covid mucking things up a bit, it's not unreasonable to think that 4k fewer fans last year is unlikely to convince the Rose to reach all the way down to #8 for a clearly inferior team (and smaller fan base leading to lower ratings) in PSU that lost to tOSU at home by 13.

The Rose would be hurting themselves by bringing in PSU over tOSU. I wouldn't say it's impossible as it would help the B1G overall, but there would have to be some sort of enticement for the RB to do so. And if I'm tOSU, I'm still upset about getting bumped. Losing to Michigan and finishing 5th in a 4 man contest sucks, but at least going to the Rose is a pretty nice Consolation Prize, a better one than any other in CFB.

Well, they told the Rose Bowl that no guarantees could be made about the next (post 2025) contract.

Wut? the #12 team would play at #5 in the first round. If they win that one, then they go to a neutral-site quarterfinal against #4. Using this week's rankings, if Tulane upsets Ohio State in Columbus, they'd go to face USC in the Rose Bowl.

If they don't use a bracket, but re-seed after each round, then Tulane would play Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. (Peach is a semifinal).

I think Tulane would get a lot of Cinderella support against Georgia, too. I think that's part of the reason that they went with 6+6. The TV audience loves a Cinderella story.

I suspect it will be the long term format, but they might not decide until after the 2024 season when they have seen it in action and started negotiating with media companies to see their preferences.

They will have to decide if they want to move up the season a week, but that probably can't happen soon, so that may be a long-term issue-for the contract after the first 6 years. Right now the conferences have contracts that include TG weekend games.

If the Pac 12 disintegrates, it might influence things.
