He has been on the hot seat for a long time. I have been checking this NORTH TEXAS message board off and on since they signed Gunnell. UNT is actually building a really nice branch campus here in Frisco.

Here is a link.

So, why even bother with the "embarrassment" comment, knowing that as a sports expert? He also said we should fire Silverfield and that recruits will not come here in his nationally promoted comments. The only purpose in my mind, would be to try to hurt Memphis recruiting and that would favor Tennessee to some degree. Best then....just use the term Memphis "underperformed"....which would be less UT alum and SEC booster/promoter talk. As far as listening to him LIVE on Memphis radio, WMFS is ranked the #12 Memphis station according to the latest Nielsen ratings. So, the audience is not that large. On top of that his "embarrassment" comment and attempt to hurt our football recruiting was made to a national audience. So comments on a low rated Memphis station do not off set his comments on the national stage that are exposed to recruits who also do not listen to WMFS. In fact, I would bet that 90% of our recruits and parents do not listen to WMFS whose city grade signal barely covers Germantown, Olive Branch and West Memphis. So, just looking at his comments DIRECTLY aimed at hurting Memphis football recruiting, I find little to like about this University of Tennessee at Knoxville Alum.

Did you even bother to read the column or listen to the clip? His "embarrassing" comment was made on the local radio station interview - not his national program. J&J asked for his opinion on the state of the program and the fact that the AD sent a letter of confidence for Ryan. He said it was embarrassing for the Admin to admit they didn't have enough $ to fire him - if that's what they are signaling. He said it's the AD and Prez's job to get the $, not waive a white flag. That is what is embarrassing. And he's right.

It's hard to believe some people actually think he's worried that Memphis recruiting will hurt the SEC and UTK so much, that he is trying to sabotage us.
It became national when you could find the story with a Google search. Not sure if he repeated it or not on his national radio show. I found the stories on him wanting several coaches fired on the Internet. Just Google "Finebaum wants coach fired" and you will find a lot about his comments on who he THINKS ought to be fired, whether accurate or not.
Finebaum has been a longtime critic of Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh. Michigan is ranked #2 in the AP Poll this week. It a good thing the MICHIGAN folks paid no attention to Finebaum. Hopefully, we can follow their lead and not automatically put a ton of credibility into his comments.
He seems to get lots of exposure every time he says a coach needs to be fired. Here is his not so accurate assessment of Harbaugh. https://thespun.com/top-stories/paul-fin...mmediately

J&J led in with the false assumption that Memphis is not firing Silverfield because they can't afford to, and Finebaum just responded to that assumption. I think the whole premise is incorrect. Veatch and others think that Silverfield will actually improve next year based on the recruiting classes and so forth.

Agree 100%. Calkins started that narrative of "not being able to afford firing Ryan". And now all the other media are running with that unproven assumption. I've said many times, we're losing (ticket sales, donations) more than we're saving in the buyout.

And the Finebaum "embarrassing" comment is being a bit misled by the same local media. He didn't say the fb program was embarrassing. He said that it's embarrassing if the AD and Prez are putting out the message that we can't afford to fire him.

6 schools who will be in the new AAC next year fired their coaches recently. Almost half the league will be new coaches.
