We need offense for the B12. Hire a D coach and we will end up being Northwestern.
If we hire Gino I'm pulling down my UC flag permanently.
If you look at Herman's resume, most of his time has been spent in B12 territory so there's a lot of synergy there. Makes sense plus he has Cincinnati roots.
Never had a losing season. He's still young. 47. Offensive minded, Currently on an NFL staff, so maybe he's picked up a few things.
Recruits like Tarzan and knows Ohio and the entire B12 footprint very well.
We need offense. And I don't ******* mean Gino.
He absolutely would be near the top of my list. If he replicated is Texas results here it would be a huge win for UC. The guy never had a losing conference record and was ranked in top 25 his last 3 years. 7 to 8 wins during years and 10 wins in a good year will absolutely be good enough for Cincinnati.
Only question is timing. NFL season deosn't end until early January...

I think Fickell knows its OSU/Michigan and everybody else. No coach who wants to win should go to the B1G. If they do, it's just for a payday.
I said it when it happened that paying him $5M after he was courted at $8-9M was a slap in the face. Now it comes back to bite us. We saved a few bucks and ruined the program for years. So shortsighted.
It has nothing to do with money...all things similar, he would still be heading to Wisconsin. It's what he wanted, to get back to the Big Ten and make one of those programs into a national winner.
bull****. He was going to the Big12 with a chance to compete for the league title. Wisconsin on most accounts here is worse than B12 Cincy. We disrespected the **** out of the guy. How else do you explain the forever talk before the $5M and then gone in the first year after. Cincy bigtime let me tell ya.
Because he knew his stock would falling the next few seasons.

The Doctrine of Efficient Breach. Hire him. Pay h a boatload. Let him quit and the NFL team can sue if they want. He's a coach not an indentured servant. Although the NCAA probably has some stupid bylaw that protects the NFL yet let's them come grab whomever they want from college.

The sooner people realize that there is no such thing as loyalty, the sooner they'll be able to just enjoy this for what it is.
"But this time it will be different! He said he loves me!"
(Says every jilted and dumped 4 time divorcée).
Yeah..so many people bought into the hype:
-He could be our lifer.
-He wants to build a top 10 program here.
-He has the easiest path to the CFP here.
-Amy loves Cincinnati and the Catholic schools.
-Other schools know he doesn't want to leave, so they will stop pursuing him.
The list goes on and on. Fans just need to realize all these coaches are the same. No matter how much smoke they blow.
Here's another quote from the Cincinnati.com article:
Quote:"I think it's a little sad to see a guy like Paul Chryst, who has been at his place as long as he has and done what he's done, to be out after five games," Fickell said in October. "Same thing at Nebraska (Scott Frost), your alma mater. Look I don't know what's going on there. I just think it's a bad trend for our kids. Not for us, we're professionals. We understand you're evaluated on wins and losses. But I think the example that we're setting for our young guys is, hey, if it's not right, just change it and get rid of it in the middle of what you're doing. No wonder we have more transfers."
Guess the way they treated Chryst didn't bother him THAT much.

I thought the B12 thing meant that we’d be able to afford to keep our coaches. Sigh.
Edit: I guess we don’t have that $$$ in hand yet.

Yep. But Fickell played into the “I’m different” narrative a lot more than the rest. But I’m not surprised at the latest. When he said, “This is who we are,” I felt it coming. Such a change of sentiment.
So Fickell is like the rest. Oh well.

Not when 8-9M was being tossed around last year. Should have broke the bank for him and locked him up.

On the bright side, Big Dick Fick now has an entirely new connotation for UC fans.
I always thought that was a bit of a creepy nickname anyways.

UC is at a real crossroads. This upcoming coaching hire may be the most critical in UC sports history. Will the Bearcats continue to progress in football or fall back into the doldrums of the past.

Money has nothing to do with this move. Wisconsin is a better situation than Cincinnati with a serious talent gap to being competitive in the Big 12. Fickell accomplished what he wanted to here and is going onto the next challenge...it is ok to admit that and not just defer to "money" being the issue.
We would've struggled to get to .500 in the Big 12 next year and Fickell knew it. If you want to say there's anything out there to worry about, I think the fans pulling all of this Prater ****, including booing Bryant and the coaches for not starting the far worse option, may have turned him a bit sour. I domt believe that, but thats more realistic than Fickell taking a raise to being the highest paid coach in his situation in the country and a Top 25 paid coach overall personally.

Everyone is nuts about this stuff. If you thought Fickell was definitely staying forever you were fooling yourself. Every individual has their own preferences and things they are looking for. Fickell was no different. He was smart in understanding UC gave him a great chance at real success, so he didn't jump to average jobs. He also seemed to believe the Big 10 was where he would be able to take the next step (or at least where he wanted to ultimately be), which is why he strongly considered Michigan State. Fickell had a plan of where he wanted to be. He was more strategic about jumping and following the money than most, but he pulled the trigger when he got what he wanted.

It’s probably going to be rebuild no matter who coach is next season. Honestly don’t think Luke’s style on offense was going get it done in the high scoring Big XII. It’s a very aggressive league on offense and that is not what UC was under Luke.
