RE: Overall I-A Bowl Status - 11/20/22
I'm sure its already on here somewhere multiple times, but for next season, which of the NY6 bowls does the top G5 team go to (I thought it rotated)?

It doesn't remotely matter if those lower conference schools have a chance of winning the tournament or not, that's not the point. It's getting to be a part of the show.
One asterisk on the bolded part above is that some conferences don't get their teams into the actual tournament, but have to play a play-in game to get into the final bracket, which I am sure many consider to be the actual bracket.
Yep, I hate how some conference champs have to play those play-in games which the NCAA insists on calling the "first round"... those first four games should be the last at-larges. No conference champ should have to play yet another game to make the field of 64 which is when the real tournament starts

Agree 100%.
Some P5 that had a losing conference record and played 90% of their OOC games at home should get the play-in spots.

Here's a counter-argument to that -- when JMU was a #16-seed, we got to play another 16 seed in the first game, and it was an opportunity to actually win an NCAA tournament game. If the play-ins were all at-large bids from P5 conferences, we'd always be a 16-seed and get walloped by Kentucky or whoever.
Now, if you changed the rules so that the autobids always got seeded above the at-larges, that'd be a lot fairer. Sure, JMU would be an underdog at #6 against a #10 seed who came in 4th in the ACC, but at least that's better than being served up to a final-four contender.

That's fair. And I remember that LIU-Brooklyn game... I do have to admit that was fun and it was nice to get a win in front of a national audience. And maybe those small conference champs actually want to be in a play-in game in order to gain some exposure. Eh, I guess I'm post-middle-aged man yelling at cloud on this one, but it just feels like a case of pushing down lower-conference teams to make room for a couple more 9th-place P5's to me.

The first four teams may also like the fact that they get an extra NCAA unit if they win their 16 vs 16 game. That’s an extra $2 million. Double the money for many programs and conferences that are broke. There also aren’t any competing TV games in the first four so all eyes are on them. It is possible that these programs actually prefer the first four. Especially the bottom feeder conferences.

You're totally right that it is, and I was originally insulted by having a play-in. But when we won the game, I thought "well it was nice to have a chance at a for-real March Madness game that we can win, because we sure as hell aren't winning the next one."
Overall, it's a lot of the same problem with bowls -- the bad teams in the power conferences get in, and you have to really excel as a mid-major to even get any attention.

Definitely this. And don't forget that they're the one game in that timeslot those first two nights. Great exposure for your program.
