This Duke is fine with that. I don’t know why people insist on conflating beating Coastal with the SBC title. Well, I do know—to get Coastal fans’ goat, which is succeeding.

Come on 94, if we win then we're tied for #1 in the SBC East with the head to head W against the team we're tied with. We'll be listed #1 in the SBC East on every standings page in the world. Coastal will technically still be the East champions but we all know who really finished on top in the East. No one is saying we'll be the real Sun Belt champions, that has to be earned in a championship game that we won't be playing in. But we'll have had the opportunity to do everything required for winning the East division and will have done it. The only reason we aren't allowed to technically win the East title is for the good of the conference, not due to some unfair advantage we had or anything.

Hey Dukes, we’ve got some extra bed sheets down here, if you want we’ll craft you up a nice Eastern Division Title banner.

It's not a participation trophy. Their games are real SBC games, and they all counted towards everyone's wins and losses in the SBC. Not only did they participate, they routed several of their SBC opponents, defeated the preseason SBC favorite in their first conference game, and put themselves in a position to hold a tiebreaker over the east champs, in a division many believe is the toughest G5 division to play in. All in their first year as an FBS program. There might be some mild trolling from JMU fans, as to be expected, but much of the whining is coming from other fanbases.

Shhh. let them continue their false narrative. it makes them feel better. 04-cheers

No fan base has been more scared of JMU joining the Sun Belt since it's been announced then the Coastal fans.

Not even ODU has shown fear. Even after the beatdown they got. They are still talking smack with the best of them.

Not even App after a down year and taking a big fat L in JMU's first SB game, have they backed away.

Marshall won (although in favorable circumstances) over us and have a lengthy history of success, so of course they have no fear. Which is also true of App.

but Coastal? despite almost no history with them and us (other than a silly mascot fight), it's been just downright fear from Day 1. Competition is heating up now in the East. No longer just App and Coastal fighting for the division title. Suddenly you bring in two more schools that win and care (Marshall and JMU) and the Beach Boys are afraid their little run without their Recruit-of-a-Lifetime is on borrowed time.

We even walked into their state and took their HS stud Running back away from them in recruiting this year.

and no, i still don't think we should go to a bowl game this year and am not bothered by that in the least bit.

But if we win Saturday, we are absolutely the SB East champions. No questions asked.

Haha. No one at Coastal is afraid of JMU.

You guys are a grad transfer journeyman QB from being at the bottom of the standings.

Good one!

Instead, JMU is one win away from being the East champ, and if CC’s one-trick-pony offense doesn’t return its golden QB to play this season, CC may be on the verge of ending the season 9-4 and on a 3 game losing streak.

Clearly the QB play drops significantly when McCall and Centeio are not playing. Those are significant losses on both sides however you look at it. Neither team is the same.

Yep and Coastal deserves credit for at least having good enough QB depth and game planning ability to beat Southern Miss without McCall. I don't think JMU could beat anyone in our conference without Centeio unless Barnett(who appears to now be the #2) is far more capable than Atkins. You've gotta have a more capable backup than Billy Atkins has been, but you also can't expect to see little to no drop off when you lose a QB as good as these two teams have.

Okay, but you’re ignoring the simple and obvious fact created by a JMU victory over CC.

If JMU defeats CC, the teams will be tied with identical SBC records.
JMU, however, will own the tie-breaker because of its head-to-head victory over CC. That’s a fact. That fact alone elevates JMU to the position of first place in the East, in essence, the East division champ.

CC will advance, and play for the SBC championship, only because of league rules making first year league members ineligible for a conference championship. No one I know is arguing that fact. But don’t confuse that the “rule” governing eligibility to play in the SBC championship game as somehow negating the division standings based on regular season games. A JMU win over CC will place JMU in first place, and in any normal year JMU would advance to play in the SBC championship.

Ummm… me thinks you need to look up the definition of “tie-breaker”.

There has to be something to be “tied for”. Their isn’t. There is one team eligible to represent the East, with the stand alone best record. Period.

IF it were a normal year… IF JMU were eligible… IF the Queen had nuts…

Been waiting for this… Maybe the SBC will be smart enough to avoid the (if they even would win) JMU record-based “tie” confusion for the voters, and let us go play VaTech this weekend, to make up our P5 game.

I’d say it’s in everyone’s best interest. The JMU game doesn’t mean anything. We are already East Champs.

No bitterness towards JMU. We already are the East champs. JMU will be the ones flaunting a tie.

Hope for what? I don't think anyone expects some impossible scenario where JMU goes to the CCG. We just want to win this game like we've wanted to win every other game this season. It doesn't matter that we can't play in the CCG or a bowl.

This whole season, we've been competing for the sake of competing. By your logic, we should have given up before the season started. JMU is still here to play and win, even if we can't compete in the CCG due to archaic rules.

VT would certainly be the easier opponent, so it's probably best for the conference.

JMU would need to be made whole through a buy out. If VT is hosting, I assume they would need to make that payment to JMU. If Coastal really wants this game, I would be fine with it if they work with JMU to negotiate a market-rate guarantee to be paid to JMU.

That said, I don't see it happening. I have to think VT is ready for this season to end.

Of course not. As much as the league should love to have the CFP salivating over beating a bad P5 team, JMU deserves to play in their Super Bowl. 05-stirthepot
