Broadcasters were claiming a sellout, but I think some tickets on the secondary market ended up getting held by greedy brokers. Crowd looked closer to 50-50 this year with SDSU fans having a big presence. That's impressive considering how many NDSU fans typically buy up tickets preseason.

It's possible we're witnessing the peak and decline of NDSU. In 5 years they could just be the next Delaware/Montana/YSU with past titles.

NDSU could be one of the first fanbases to grow if they start losing more games. But I am with you, if NDSU doesn’t get an FBS lifeline, they could easily join that club. FCS was good to us but glad to see we found a new ceiling!

Totally agree, NDSU needs any FBS move ASAP if they don't want interest to keep declining.

Ho hum.

Didn’t watch. Wasn’t even aware the game was being played.

Happy for the Jackrabbits. Happy that NDSU had their clocks cleaned.

Ho hum.

RE: FCS Playoffs
I've been saying this for a while, but the best thing that could happen to NDSU was a tough loss.
They kept showing camera shots in the stands and almost every shot of NDSU fans, they seemed genuinely in shock.
I believe they have been undefeated in championship games (9-0 before yesterday if I recall- which is unreal).
This is a loss that they actually needed. They are so used to winning, they forgot what it feels like to lose and lose in a big way. Of course they've lost in the regular season, but rarely do they lose a game where it really, really mattered. I think this loss is good for them and could bring back some support from those that have grown apathetic to winning.

The B1G is a non-starter, so it’s either the MWC or the MAC.

Here’s a question: we know the NDSU football team is good. But how competitive are their other sports? We knew wherever JMU went, we’d be competitive in about everything but baseball. What about NDSU?

They are "good" but not the juggernaut they used to be. They are slipping.
Got beat by SDSU twice this year, got their a's kicked in the title game.
Lost to a bad Arizona team, and almost lost to UIW in the playoffs.

On a neutral or home field UIW might have bumped them out before frisco. Lots of wailing on their boards about firing all the coaches and the AD too 03-lmfao

The NDSU board is in semi-meltdown over the loss, and some of their spoiled fans are suggesting the head coach must be fired. Makes me smile.

Welcome to Toon Town!

I couldn’t care less what happens to that program, but the most likely direction is down, down, down, for an extended stay in no-man’s land and semi-obscurity.

They have definitely been spoiled, that's for sure. But I never thought Entz was going to be the coach Klieman was for them.
Too many times have they been spared by playing in their comfy airplane hangar. They're always going to be a contender, but I do believe their days of absolute dominance are coming to an end. It's going to be interesting to see how their fans handle it.

If they dont move up soon I can see them becoming a Montana type program.

Big difference is Montana would keep 20-25k fans even being average. North Dakota can't sell out anymore when winning championships. Without that dome packed with braying fans they might struggle even more.

Good for SDSU, long time coming and well deserved.

I see no room at the inn for NDSU in existing FBS leagues. They’re a prisoner of their geography. If the NCAA allowed the creation of a new FBS conference (and these other teams were willing to move up with NDSU), a league built around NDSU, Montana, and Montana State would be a good beginning. Logically, if a regional FBS conference was in the offering, adding Boise, Washington St., Idaho, Weber St. and SDSU would make sense…but logic and rational thought have nothing to do with this. Basically, NDSU is screwed.

I expect SDSU to gain a ton of recruiting ground on the smelly Bisons after beating NDSU twice last season, especially after that convincing beatdown in Frisco. I also expect the smellies to be the Jacks' b!tch for the foreseeable future. The Bisons are fresh out of Lances and Watsons.

Yeah. Geography is their biggest enemy. While they are a juggernaut in FCS, they don't have an unlimited budget. They would also probably need to have a plan to update the Fargodome. The current capacity is 19,000. That won't be cheap. They could probably get away with it for a little while, but would absolutely need a larger venue eventually.
In the current MW, there aren't any schools that are within driving distance. Expenses go up in FBS and when you have absolutely no conference foe you can drive to, that will not be cheap. They do not have the budget to shrug that off like Liberty does.
Many of the schools you mentioned really wouldn't help NDSU due to the distance. SDSU would really be the only that might make sense. But to be honest, I have no idea if they have FBS aspirations or if they could even handle it. NDSU would probably need at least one other school in the area to join them to make that work. If a school needs another school to make it work, that's not a great combination for success.

On a side note, what was up with all the NDSU players (there were a lot of them on TV on Sunday) with the cheesy 1980s mustaches?

It’s their backup plan if they don’t make the NFL. They’re going to Southern California (just not Disneyland) to star in the porn industry.

When I first looked at that I went "uh what? No they aren't" then I remembered they strangely call it by the year the game was played instead of the year of the season. The 2016 national champions won the 2017 national championship, always feels so dumb and weird to me.
