I just noticed Gardner-Webb played THREE FBS games this year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an FCS team do that. Puts some beef on that 6-5 record. Granted, all three were G5, but still all were on the road. GW was within 2 points in two of the games.

Yeah, but Charlotte beat GW by 28 pts. They lost to Georgia Southern by 5 and Coastal Carolina by 4. Elon beat GW by 6. GW beat Campbell by 7. GW was 5-5 against DI competition, and 5-3 against FCS. They had a DII win.

On balance I’d say they're a solid squad, but nothing about those results are particularly alarming to me.

Just saw that W&M won a piece of the CAA Title and got the #5 seed. Congrats and good luck in the playoffs. This Duke will be rooting for you to take it all!

I think you might be looking at 2021? GW didn’t play Charlotte this year. They lost to Coastal by 4, lost at Liberty by one and lost 26-7 at Marshall. So they were 6-2 against others and 5-0 in Big South.

RE: Playoff Seeding
I agree with Sitting Bull that G-W's 6-5 record is nothing to sneer at. I've been noticing all year that they have been playing well and was not surprised that they beat N.C. A&T. I also would not be surprised if they beat EKU, although most every prognosticator seems to be picking EKU. Maybe EKU does win....but I wouldn't be surprised if G-W wins either. It will probably be a great game. Hope it goes 9 overtimes.

Yep, ignore me, I somehow mixed some 2021 games in there. The 2022 FBS results are impressive and they hung with Elon, but then they got blown out by Mercer and struggled to beat Campbell and Bryant. Bit inconsistent, but they’re obviously capable of playing at a high level. No disrespect from me.

I just talked to the ticket folks. They mentioned that some are being held back, but the season ticket holders have mostly bought their tickets already. They are predicting a sell out.

Per the e-mail sent on Sunday afternoon:

“All season ticket holders will have until Wednesday at noon to purchase their exact location. All tickets will be released to the general public on Wednesday afternoon.”

Not sure what they’re holding back at this point.

Sorry if my post was confusing. They are holding back tickets on Wednesday at the noon release because they anticipate some large block requests that cannot come in via the website. They will be released as we get closer to the game.

We sold out for that night semi-final game against JMU but I was under the impression that our playoff attendance was generally pretty light. I guess I would be surprised if this upcoming game is a sellout.

From my experience, the Thanksgiving weekend is usually pretty lightly attended (presumably holiday travel, etc) but the December weekends do better.

That’s the actual history of it. A good crowd would be about 75% your regular season avg which would be about 7500 for us.

If it’s a semifinal, it should be sold out.

When Weber State visited in 2009, the stands were sparse.

I hope that we have similar outcomes to the 2009 Weber State playoff game. as I recall, that was fun!

True. I was more thinking of that kind of outcome for all of the playoff games.

As you will note in my comment in #80 of this thread, I already covered the disappointment of GA Southern and playing them one at a time.

That weekend is also Grand Illumination. Was trying to get a hotel for Saturday and Hilton and Marriot properties sold out. Was hoping it was football related but don't think so. Still, some local alums might think a game at 2 followed by a night in Christmas decorated CW is a nice weekend and make the drive

Here’s a full account below of playoff attendance. The majority of games were played Thanksgiving weekend (#).

The sole sellout was the 2004 semifinal, included lights and a nearby opponent. Beyond that, we never hit above 9,000. I do feel the interest this year is higher than most so if the students get engaged, I would like our chances of a crowd in the 9-10000 range.

1986: #Delaware. 5700

1996: #Jackson State. 4057

JMU. 12259
2009: #Weber State. 6497
2010: Georgia Southern. 8243

He has W&M beating E. Kentucky and Weber State, then losing to eventual Champion, SDSU, in the Semi-Finals.
Aside from winning the whole thing, that is a dream scenario. 2 home games and a trip to Frisco. Too bad there isn't a comments section. Montana St fans would be losing their minds.
Actually it would be 2 home games followed by a trip to SDSU for the right to head to Frisco.

I had the pleasure of attending a playoff game in Brookings SD two years ago. You won’t find nicer people, a nicer stadium or a better FCS environment. Very rabid fan base. If we go this route, I highly recommend the trip. Downtown Brookings has a block of sports bars which are packed with Rabbit fans on Gameday. The campus is very nice and they have a wonderful art museum.

It’s about 3.5 hours drive from Minneapolis airport or an hour if you fly into Sioux Falls SD.

On a trip a few years back we visited Brookings. Nice area, people really friendly, we were there when students were just (likely Freshmen) getting in town. Not a big town, but after the wide open, quite desolate plains, seemed like a metropolis.
