If they want to draw a crowd to that game, yes. I’m hearing EMU is probably headed to Idaho though.

Interesting. If that holds, I wonder if Bowling Green becomes the best choice for Detroit, given that Toledo might not wish to play there twice and Ohio might not bring a huge crowd. (Based on the distance and the fact that it would be a second trip.)

I believe Toledo is probably going to Arizona, in which case I guess BG to QL would make the most sense.

CBS sports guy has EMU Vs NMSU in Detroit. Ohio State moving into playoff cost the MAC a chance at a Big Ten opponent there. BG to Idaho is his projection Vs Utah State.

I would think BG to Detroit then. But that is just a dreadful not exciting opponent.

BG has brought good crowds to Detroit before. Not sure if NMSU is a needle-mover though.

It seems like almost all of the rabid NMSU supporters will travel for that game, so there will be plenty of seats of Bowling Green fans to go to a nearby bowl.

I like the fact that BG can win this game but moving forward if we have to settle for NMSU or CUSA teams they might as well move this bowl to the soccer stadium in Nashville.

Bowls are designed to be played in vacation areas.

One of the big pluses of having the bowl in Detroit is said to be travel. Bowl in Nashville wouldn't be too bad in that regard IMO.

These are terrible opponents. The MAC champ gets Liberty? Really, Liberty?
Eastern Michigan should have a better opponent than SJSU
Ohio playing Wyoming is nothing exciting
BG gets..... NMSU....In Detroit....Really?!?!
Buffalo against Ga Southern....In middle of no where Alabama....No thanks.
UAB - Miami (OH) is the only halfway decent game.

None of these opponents are exciting or needle movers. I do not see a lot of MAC faithful traveling to these games just due to their opposition being dreadful. Toledo may travel well to Boca and Ohio to AZ.... But only because of the locations.

NMSU pounded Liberty. They scheduled Valpo to get bowl eligible. BG needs to win this and bring all their fans!! Vantrese vs. UB is intriguing. The rest, whatever. I like our chances at the bowl title honestly. Not big underdogs in any of em!

Methinks that they are not. USC's loss opening the door to OSU making the playoff shifted the rest of the Big Ten up a bowl slot, likely taking Wisconsin out of Detroit.

Don't look at any of our games and think automatic loss, but with us in bowl season you never know.

NMSU got a waiver before the Valpo game. The Valpo game didn't' count towards bowl eligibility.

Still nice that they ended up with a 6th win. Jerry Kill back in biz! NMSU fans are actually pretty excited because they’ve known so little success. But excited enough to go to Detroit? That’s a big ask.

Quote:These are terrible opponents. The MAC champ gets Liberty? Really, Liberty?

Liberty on paper is actually a High Level G5 (independent), but they went downhill at the end due to coach leaving, I assume. They're 8-4, but lost their last 3 games. They had a tougher schedule than most G5s, and most certainly tougher than any MAC program this year (one of our worst years). Liberty Crushed BYU 41-14, beat @Arkansas, and lost to @Wake Forest by 1 pt as their only loss up until their last 3 games (@UConn by 3, VaTech by 1, and shockingly crushed by NMSU.

It's NOT an unfair matchup by any means. But I can understand wanting to play another G5 conference champ (good or bad).

Quote:Eastern Michigan should have a better opponent than SJSU

Why? EMU's 8-4, SJSU's 7-4 (NSMU game postponed; safe to say SJSU woulda beat them). And SJSU had a bit of a tougher schedule, as being in the MW. One would be Weird to think this is a mismatch of any kind - lol.

Quote:Ohio playing Wyoming is nothing exciting

Yeah, so? Is it supposed to be?

Quote:BG gets..... NMSU....In Detroit....Really?!?!

It's because Mich State fell short of .500 -- and OSU & UM made it to the 4 Playoff spots -- hence, lack of B1G teams. Hence, you can't expect a P5 coming in this year. But yeah, NMSU was a squeaker to get in. Kinda sucks, but then again, it's BGSU, so... :)

Quote:Buffalo against Ga Southern....In middle of no where Alabama....No thanks.

Were you going to drive there? LOL. It's in Montgomery, AL. It's not the middle of nowhere.

Quote:UAB - Miami (OH) is the only halfway decent game.

An expected fair matchup. Just like Ohio vs Wyoming, and Buffalo vs GA-Southern, and EMU vs SJSU, and Toledo vs Liberty.

Like Boise or Shreveport or Yankee Stadium?

This is a good bowl game for the MAC. Obviously, it is better when we have the chance to play a Big Ten opponent, but this is the one game where we are usually the home team. The building has a roof, which is nice, and there is plenty to do nearby.

As a Bowling Green fan, I'm happy with this matchup.
