RE: Who could/should we get?
I think there's a big difference between being the Boise State of the new, cruddier league and just being one of the top five teams. The way we're playing under Silverfield indicates we'd be at the level of or chasing ECU, Tulane, etc., and that's what truly deflates the fan base. When he came in we were poised to be a powerhouse.
If we hire someone, this year or next, I'd love Dillingham or Prime Time but it's probably someone we've never heard much of.

So crazy...that if he just would have beat Houston and ECU. Games he 100% should have won considering the circumstances....he currently would be 7-3....about to go to 8-3.....then with a win/loss at SMU would be 9-3 (likely ranked) or at worst 8-4. He would probably be getting an extension.
And you had both Houston and ECU beat multiple times. Same thing happened previous year. This is what gives me most concern. CRS just has shown a tendency to not be able to close out games for whatever reason.
And biggest thing because of how painful some of the losses have been....he has lost a big percentage of the fan base. Just a tough sell to get people excited for next year.
This is the overriding problem. It doesn't matter if you go undefeated. If no one will pay to watch it, you will not keep your multi-million dollar job.
I very much disagree with this. In my opinion every Memphis Tiger football game is like Christmas, and we get at least 12 of them every year which must be the origin of the phrase the 12 days of Christmas. Winning the game is like being a kid and waking up on Christmas morning and getting really awesome presents. Losing the game is like getting presents that you don't want - disappointing but still better than no Christmas at all. Going undefeated is the biggest dream that a heart can make. These things are ends unto themselves. If people choose not to enjoy these wonderful blessings then I honestly feel sorry for them because their lives are not as full as they should be.

100% on this. The realignment depression is real for a lot of people. I have heard it a lot.
Then the painful losses people can't bear over and over. It really is tough to stomach.
Really need a big step next year with or without CRS. Need to win or be at top of league. That would increase peoples spirits.

The Tigers are highly unlikely to be added to a conference because unfortunately, we dont bring much to the table from a market perspective.

There is a ladder approach to realignment. We just missed the cut off last time. If more happens on the central/eastern side of the country Memphis will be in the mix.
Just a year ago reports were Memphis and Boise were top candidates for if Big 12 expanded more. UCLA/USC move changed a lot of dynamics and caused a more westward look. But if PAC settles down for a while, those B12 eyes may come back.
Memphis, SMU, Boise, USF, SDSU are still near the top of G5 candidates. In the end I think all of these end up promoted....just will take a little while. Got to keep pushing.

He probably will unless there is confirmed interest from a proven commodity - in which case I would hope the change is made. There is a real good chance to win the conference next season with a strong HC.

Great points.
I'd start a poll, but Ted would run away with it.
However, if he gets anxiety over a divorce, imagine him driving to LB stadium from South Campus.
You forget, he bring Coach Beard

If he could get Nate back in the fold, there's his OC.
And Nate could tap into the growing Indian population in greater Memphis.

What you just typed has nothing to do with what I said. I agree with you. But that's not the issue. What IS the issue is, what do the vast majority of people think. You and I are just two people. The administration cannot justify hanging on to a coach who cannot fill the stands, no matter what the reason.

Well you missed where I said that winning the games and going undefeated are ends unto themselves. Newsflash: the point of playing football is to win the games. The happy side effect is filling the stands. Not vice versa. But the two things are so interconnected by an unshakable causality that the ludicrous situation you hypothesized could never happen.

I'm not saying he is definitely the guy, but he has the best resume of anyone who would be interested.
Don't know about the best, but he's got a solid one.

Added him to the OP. Although a bit old and a defensive guy - not what the fan base is looking for. But if he wins, whatever.

I could see his tenure going the full gamut - from huge success to complete cluster fukk. Either way I don't think he'd be here more than 2-3 years however it went.
