It’s just 5 seasons. We better make sure the Sun Belt plays strong and improves so ESPN doesn’t start bumping us if C-USA is improving.

CUSA's Midweek TV games are not on ESPN, they are on CBSSN. Our contract gives us a guaraantee of an ESPN/ESPN2 game if a team plays on a Wednesday or Tuesday

It is really that shocking. They’re getting paid a premium to work the graveyard shift. Come on Monarx, you understand the economics, right?

Supply and Demand. CBSSN televises basically junk most Tuesday's and Wednesday's. This gives them considerable midweek inventory, while allowing them to use Saturday games for better teams.

Now look at em. LOL.

No question this is better than CUSA's previous deal.... but I'm shocked at the amount of midweek TV games, and moving the CBS Sports Network games away from Saturdays.

It's going to hurt those fanbases.

Nary a Saturday game in October isn’t a good long play, but what’s it really gonna hurt at some of the programs in question?

Agreed - but the demand is going to be weak to attend a Tues/Wed game. I wouldn’t invest in season tix for mostly mid-week games. My time - and the customer’s time - is too valuable. I would cherry pick the best games and buy premium single game tickets. It’s a flawed strategy.

Not really, outside of Liberty and WKU at least. I remember when the SBC first agreed to midweek games, our attendance generally stunk league wide at the time, so the move made sense. But we only had 2 non Saturday home games max as well.

As a reminder, C-USA officially has a lower paying deal than the Sun Belt.

https://collegead.com/newsfeed/search/Sun+Belt+media/

Quote:Sources tell CollegeAD that the Sun Belt Conference's new TV agreement with ESPN will see its members take home just under $2 million annually as part of the league's distribution plan.

That is from behind a pay wall, but from a few months ago.

The irony of a few on that board exaggerating SBC's weekday games only to end up with a whole month of nothing but weekday games.

Now, now…According to our old friend, there’s nothing official about any of those numbers. We don’t know anything until there’s a conference-issued press release.

Not sure what makes McMurphy’s sources better than SBJ’s, but $50k isn’t enough to argue about anyway.

It’s a big improvement as far as platforms and money. The last contracts were an absolute joke.

Any word yet on where the games not on linear TV will end up (not that there will be many in a 10-team league with 4 nights to fill)?

We built something that passed cusa with a lot less $$$, so it’s up to our programs to maintain the advantage we currently have over them.

Well said.

RE: New CUSA TV deal - all October games mid-week - $700k per school
Knew it would be a short term deal and there is a reason for that. And something else worth mentioning.....

My contacts tell me that this deal is very unique and not your typical TV contract for a conference in a traditional sense. The contract is written in a way to give ESPN and CBS a quick and easy way out if certain measures and conditions are not met over the next five years. Which is very interesting. Still quite a bit of uncertainty that this conference will even survive over the long term.

And as for Brett McMurphy's source that tells him its 800K a year....My contacts tell me its actually closer to $700-750K a year. Which basically improves each school payout to about $300K extra per year over the last deal.

Bottom line.....this is basically a "prove yourself" type of deal that was expected considering all the changes that have happened. This Herd fan is just thankful we are no longer a part of that situation. Couldn't imagine playing an entire month solely playing mid-week games. Talk about killing your fan base and season ticket sales!

100%

Hearing some of the talk on here makes me realize a few just don’t know where we’ve been, or must have forgotten. Teams like Troy, stAte and Louisiana know all too well the realities of playing on Tuesday/Wednesday nights.

To know where you are going, you must understand where you have been, and this holier than thou attitude needs to stop. We are blue collar…keep grinding and worry about making the SBC the best conference in College Football!

The real losers in this TV deal for CUSA that nobody is talking about is WKU and MTSU. The MAC offered them a life raft and they didn't take it. Now they will be featured on Tuesday and Wednesday night games but making less money in CUSA. 03-nutkick

Edited for clarity.

MT is getting what they wanted, and time will tell if it’s the right choice for them. WKU fans are probably ready to nuke Murfreesboro.

That's absurd. The MAC plays on weeknights in colder weather with the most empty stadiums of any conference. MAC basketball and baseball are way, way worse than the new CUSA. As is Sun Belt basketball. Many of the schools in the MAC are near bankrupt. And the MAC is not a stepping stone to anywhere, so if your school has any type of bigger aspirations, stay away. MTSU also recruits in the south so the MAC makes little to no sense. And it is barely less money. $833,000 vs. $800,000.

To be honest, this might be a decent enough deal for the FCS newbies who never had a real media payout to compare.

For those who remember the old CUSA 1.0 and CUSA 2.0 glory days with the likes of Cincinatti, Louisville, TCU, Houston, SMU, UCF, etc., this deal is another reminder of the steep decline in the last decade or so. ESPN is bluntly telling them they're currently worth "this much" which is the worst among all FBS.

Playing every conference game on Tuesday/Wednesday for a month in the hopes of getting one in CBSSN?
