I just hope CUSA can survive can losing a program that has had one winning season in the 8 years they have been FBS and 9 winnings seasons out of the last 20 in bball.

I personally dont care how that looks losing a head coach to another conference (as of now) school. PLEASE go after Helton and if not I hope UAB does and he has ties to UAB.

Helton is not a bad coach but its clear after 4 years he's not a championship coach. So he should be a great fit at UNCC where winning 7 to 9 games most years is a major upgrade.

Good Luck in AAC and unlike a few Western fans I think UNCC will get back to winning in basketball. Football is still up in the air and this next hire will tell that tale if it happens this decade

I have been telling everyone the same about Helton. He is just an ok coach. Helton just can't win the big games or beat the good teams (aside from the bowl win last year vs App St, which had more to do with a last hoorah from Zappe, Sterns, and Kittley). I think his ceiling is about an 8-4 record. WKU won't win a title with him at the helm.

Yep, Helton is perfect at UNCC. He goes 7-5 and will be best record at that school by a mile. Thats what UNCC needs, no way they ever sniff a title in American. Well on 2nd though, not sure Helton would be a good fit in American, but please give him a shot!

Helton isn't perfect and I have my doubts that he can win a title with WKU as well. I do think that he is very good at identifying talent and getting that talent to play for WKU. He would be a good coach to bridge the gap for a program just looking not to be awful. The problem will be moving on from him in 5 years. He won't be bad enough to fire and won't be good enough to get poached. No man's land.
