Looked at the depth chart..

Wilke starting.
Lange back up.
Trey Lowe as 3rd string.

Thoughts?

I don't have an issue with it.
Wilke just needs to settle down and not turn the ball over. he's going to make mistakes I'm just glad we have a defense that is able to stop the other team most of the time.

We aren't going to win many games playing like we have on offense, the turnovers are too much to overcome against a decent team. That being said, I don't think the coaches have a lot of faith in the QB's beyond Wilke. They pulled Lange when TxSt got ahead and they needed someone with playmaking ability to make something happen.

RE: ULL Cajuns
Under the circumstances I guess I'm okay with it, as I don't see any other QB to step in the role. I find myself wondering if Trey Lowe really isn't that good? Or is Will Hall set on giving the future QB and backup QB as much experience as possible? I would hope Ty Keyes will be given a legitimate chance to reclaim the starting role next spring, especially if Wilcke's performance the rest of the year is similar to the past 3 games.

I can't say how this team will do the rest of the year. I'll hope for the best. One thing that surprises me about this conference is the amount of parity in it. I really believe that there isn't a single team in this conference that is so good or so bad that they're guaranteed to win or lose any game.

Way I understood it Hall benched him because of the fumble.. He sat on the bench and when TX State got the TD, Hall went to Wilcke and asked him was his head right and did he think he could get USM the win, and Wilcke told him he'd like to try.

Again, Wilcke is young.. Lange is young.. I think we get through the season with Wilcke healthy, he'll have a full off season to work, remember last year at this time he was playing on Friday nights. But I implore Hall to start recruiting QBs now.

And I agree.. We've been lucky the last couple of weeks to turnover more than the other team win, we can't keep doing it.. While our D is keeping us in the game, we can't put it all on their shoulders.

I know we barely beat stAte, but I didn't realize until today that this past weekend they played without Blackmon and I think their starting RB.

I'm really hoping Wilcke impresses these next five games and shows he's the future QB. But if he seems to have peaked and plays the next five games the way he's played the last three, I think Coach Hall has to consider other options including the transfer portal.

I think this team will be talented enough to compete for the championship next year. There's a lot of key defensive players who will be seniors in 2023. I think Hall has to take advantage of that and do everything possible to have a good QB to maximize the offenses potential. The offense has a quality line, talented running backs and talented receivers- they just need an effective QB to take them down the field and score TDs.

No one can underestimate the confidence Wilke got last week. The decision to put him back in and then for him to lead the team for the win was huge. It may turn out to be one of Hall’s best coaching jobs.

If our offense could muster even a semblance of positive consistency we could be dangerous.

Defense gives up big plays here and there but also makes big plays, they won this game tonight.

No lie. Our offense is far from good and we’re sitting at 5-3/3-1 with a win over a ranked team and a close loss to an ORV. If this offense comes around in the future, look out.

I don’t get why Lowe doesn’t get a chance. From what I’ve seen of him (granted not a ton) he’s better than Wilke. At least at this time. 3rd string?

Great win on real TV. Second half wasn’t as good. But 3 wins in a row! 5-3! Can’t complain about that.

Heard Lowe say he was finished with football after this year. He is a senior. I don’t think he has put in the work. No reason for Hall to play him in a rebuilding year.

I do get the reasoning for playing conservative in the second half. Though I don't like it. I do wonder though if we had a qb that wasn't throwing a lot of interceptions if we would still play so conservative. I sure hope not. Bower's one big issue was playing not to lose in the second half as well.

Hall addressed this in the post-game press conference.

Essentially you're right, he said he played conservative not wanting to put too much stress on a freshman QB's shoulder, and that he has more confidence in the defense and kicking game at this point, which I agree with. If it weren't for that Gore fumble inside their 5 yard line his strategy looked pretty solid but that's something you don't plan on happening.

Going forward, who knows what his game plan will look like if he has a capable QB, but right now, I like taking as much pressure off of Wilke as possible.
