2023 WAC FB Conference Scheduling
A question, please. I realize there is an agreement with the ASUN, but in 2023 since there will only be 5 FB playing schools, will WAC schools only have 4 WAC conference games, or will each school play home and home with each other WAC conference school?

The first year of our scheduling alliance with the ASUN, WAC and ASUN teams played each other. That didn’t happen this year because we thought we were set without cross/conference scheduling until a couple of last minute defections changed everything. I suspect next year WAC teams will once again play each other as well as Austin Peay, UCA, Eastern KY and North Alabama.

Kennesaw is still ASUN in 2023 but won't be eligible for the playoffs or league title.
Any update on UTRGV football?

That is great! I image we are all looking forward to your participation and making the WAC stronger. Very happy you are "putting on the pads."

UTRGV should have or should be posting its head coaching opening soon. They intended to hire this coming winter. Presume we will see the position posted as this is the time to be hiring in the coming months
New Orleans is talking of starting in ‘24 should their vote pass next month so will be two teams starting from scratch with coaching hires this offseason (vote pending).

I know this belongs in the WAC expansion thread but I will throw out an opinion.
From a UNO perspective, I read on Twitter posted by Southland folks if UNO adds football, they could become the premier athletic program in the Southland. If they want to step up their competition, the WAC is a great place for them. Having a major international airport in their city, gives them easy access to all schools in the WAC. I have no idea what their budget is so the increased travel may make a move cost prohibitive. In D1 athletics, schools have to spend big to be big.
From a WAC perspective, I think it was you who stated a football school to the WAC makes no sense as it would be going from a stable league to an unstable one. I 100% agree with you or whoever said this. The only way UNO to the WAC makes sense is for them to be part of a package deal. Ideally, the package would include two other football schools for a total of 14 basketball teams and 9 football schools with UTRGV coming along in 2025. I will not speculate on the other schools as this really belongs in the expansion thread. New Orleans is a great travel destination for WAC fans and an easy get to due to their airport.
My reason for the initial post was I believe UNO can be another option for WAC expansion if they add football.
At worst, they will make a great partner for individual WAC schools scheduling home and home football games.
