Why would the Sunbelt even entertain the notion of a 16 team conference at the G5 level?

Long story short, it could establish the Sun Belt as the G5 superconference.

Then it should be within the geographical footprint. ECU, Memphis, Tulane, WKU or LT. Please no UTSA! Go into Florida before west Texas.

In other words, as our value (per school payout) increases, the likelihood of an FCS addition increasing that value more actually decreases, right? The gap widens.

Yes, I agree.

Tulane is private so they're out, and Memphis would likely never agree to join. That would basically leave UAB, WKU, or La Tech. UAB would be my pick, but part of me would like to sit back and watch if La Tech joined the West.

Which, even if successful, accomplishes what, exactly?

The glue that's going to hold together these massive P5 conferences (if they even do hold together) is massive truckloads of money. We ain't getting massive truckloads of money even with ECU plus one.

And that one FBS school can hardly hold on to their own FBS talent.

Depending on what happens with the P5 conferences, the Sun Belt could establish itself as high as the 4th best conference which would be quite the accomplishment from a just a few years ago.

It's less than an hour from Texas State. Did you mean UTEP?

We can be #4 without adding anybody and becoming a superconference. Let’a keep straight the cause and effect here. The SEC and Big Ten are (theoretically) able to maintain big numbers because they long ago established themselves as the cream of the crop and could demand big dollars which led to everyone wanting to be a part of it. They didn’t become good and crazy profitable just by adding members.

They didn't get that way by staying small either. They got that way by keeping/adding schools that fit. Fit matters, not numbers.

That’s what I’m saying. Super or not, we’ll be fine. The SBC just added 4 schools 3 months ago and is now as big as any G5 has ever been and survived.
