Agree. Only thing I might change is put Rice as equal to WKU, but I think it can go either way. MT did not look good at all against us, but we played much better than we have all year. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

FAU opens as a five-point favorite at home over Rice, so we shall see. I’ll be taking Rice and the points this weekend.

We’re worse than Charlotte. We play in two weeks at FIU and I think they win by 2 TDs.

I think we’ll be a 5-win team next year so it’s going in the right direction but we’re really bad right now.

CUSA power rankings

1. UTSA (1) - Won showdown battle against WKU
2. La Tech (4) - 10 point win over UTEP
3. Rice (5) - Beat UAB by td
4. UAB (2) - No problem with MTSU, but lost to surprising Rice
5. WKU (3) - Lost 2 close games to UTSA and Troy
6. NT (8) - Current conference co-leader, beat FAU by 17
7. UTEP (9) - Split, win over Charlotte, loss to La Tech
8. MTSU (7) - 27 point loss to UAB
9. FAU (6) - Lost big to NT
10. Charlotte (10) - Played UTEP close
11. FIU (11) - Lost to UConn, but beat New Mexico St

I see the current CUSA in three tiers

First: UTSA alone
Third: Bottom dwellers Charlotte and FIU
Second: Every other team with currently little difference between them

I feel there's a very slim margin between those first four right now. Does UTSA lose to WKU if our game had been in Kentucky? Does Rice lose to UAB if their game had been in Alabama? Games to keep an eye on which could decide the course...

UAB @ WKU 10/21
UTSA @ UAB 11/05
Rice @ WKU 11/12
UTSA @ Rice 11/19

Rice @ WKU 11/12
UTSA @ Rice 11/19

This evaluation is spot on, but the bold four need to not drop a road game to MTSU, North Texas, Florida Atlantic or Louisiana Tech. And the “second four” are all capable of winning at home.

As you note above, if the home team wins within the “bold four” then Rice and WKU have a one game advantage on UAB and UTSA.

That Owls/Marshmallows contest might end up being huge!

RE: Conference Power Rankings after Week 6?
Reading the Rice-FAU preview now in the Houston Chronicle and realizing the pedigree of Willy Taggert and the familiar (for those of us in Houston) Todd Orlando. With a fifth year starting QB who played for Miami, I am surprised that FAU is 2-4. But Rice and FAU have not played since 2016 so I have lost track of our eastern Owl friends. Also surprised this is an all-time series that Rice leads 2-1.
