Yeah, I know this is a crazy idea, but states that have at least four FBS teams should conduct a mini State Championship each year.

For example…..

WEEK 1
WKU @ Kentucky
EKU @ Louisville

Memphis @ Tennessee
MTSU @ Vandy

Liberty @ Virginia
ODU @ Va. Tech

Georgia St. @ Georgia
Kennesaw St. @ Ga. Tech

UAB @ Alabama
S. Alabama @ Auburn

UCF @ Florida
USF @ Florida St.

WEEK 3
Winners face each other for whatever trophy they play for and bragging rights.
I know some things may need to be changed around for traditional rivalry weekends.

How quaint!

Anyway, with 12 FBS teams we could mimic the future CFP and play 5-12 in week “zero” then merge right in to week one with 8 teams still standing.

Rice is setting up nicely to earn a top-four “bye” for next year!!!

The two biggest issues with this proposal are one team in Tuscaloosa and another over in the east central part of the state.

Every year, Bama and Auburn already play what they (and, quite honestly, pretty much everyone else in Alabama) consider a "State Championship," called the Iron Bowl.

And while it WOULD be interesting to get the state's G5s playing each other in some form of round-robin tourney, with four teams (UAB, USA, troy state, and soon-to-be Jax State), each team would have to dedicate three slots on their football schedule for this purpose. That's just not realistic, when there are regional rivalry games and P5 money games to be had.

There's just no room. It's all Jax State can do to get back on UAB's or troy state's schedule for a quick two-game home-and-home series. (We have no history with USA.)
