I think a committee would be useful for bracketing, but I’d like an objective measure (even something convoluted like NET, if that were a ranking metric) for earning byes, home games, and playoff spots.

You can always bring back the BCS poll. But I think quo has said at least with the top four teams there was pretty much no difference between where BCS would have had the teams vs who the selection committee chose.

Literally ANYTHING is better than a CFP Selection Committee.

I don't mind a committee, but I would like to see the discussions televised. People would watch.

Better for who? You could get just as good a result using the Massey Composite, but that doesn't make for a compelling reveal show.

Wasn't the premise of a football playoff to be "just like every other sport"? And isn't the playoff of every other NCAA sport determined by a committee?

This board would lose our collective minds every time they broadcast their discussions. I'd love it!

Fwiw, I'm fine with a committee. It wouldn't bug me to use some other system, or use some sort of computer rating system, or composite system, as a tool to help the committee, but I can only think of a couple of times where I had a serious beef with somebody missing out (like my Aggies 2 yrs ago) or with someone being over- or under-seeded within the top 4. They generally get things right.

Yeah, but it actually does seem fair for every sport except football.

My biggest issue is that fact that they release rankings. I wish the BCS + AP + Coaches poll would just be merged to determine the top 25. And have the selection committee only handle picking the playoff teams.

DISAGREE. The NCAA men's basketball selection committee hasn't been fair at all.

Only 9 (24%) of the 37 at-large bids went to non-P5 teams in 2021. The other 28 (76%) were P5 teams.

What that means is that more than 3/4ths (76%) of the at-large bids went to 5 (16%) of the 31 conferences.

The selection committee put (#75) Michigan State into the NCAA tournament over (#31) Memphis, which they didn't give a bid.

You call that "fair?"

It was a lot fairer a decade ago (e.g., 1994 and 2000), when twice as many (33%) of the at-large bids went to teams from non-P5 conferences.

The selection committees have become more and more biased toward P5 teams in their selections of at-large teams over the past decade.

This. The only problem with the BCS system was they didn't take it further. They only matched 1 vs. 2. It should have been used 1-20. That way we would have gotten the 10 best bowl games possible.

Agree with this. Then, the teams know what their ranking is based off of years in advance and can schedule OOC accordingly as well. A whole lot less complaining!

10 FBS Conference Champions + 6 "P5" runner ups (just for now)

should be

10 FBS Conference Champions + the 6 best of the rest. Use the average ranking from the AP/Coaches Polls/Computer rank.

The 5 P5 champs, 2 at-larges, the top G5 team. That way committee's involved only in the 2 at-larges & possibly the G5 team.

I am fine with the selection committee, but I would also be fine with a composite of computer rankings, like the MC or the old BCS computers.

5+2+1=8. Isn't it going to be a 12-team playoff?

Also, the committee would also be involved in seeding the playoff teams.
