Interesting play selection, IMHO. How much option we ran or didn't would depend a lot on how many of the FB gives were reads or called gives, but certainly more than against AF. Some of those were clearly traps though.

We ran the one play a few times where the FB just ran as a traditional blocker and the slot back just looped in to take the give - basically just an I formation power run out of a weird formation. It seemed to work but I wonder how effective if the other side preps for it. I guess we will see.

What i saw was a lot of counter action. When you see that first motion, pause, check to the sideline, we're looking to see if the safety is following that first motion, which will make the counter effective.
The fullback runs were probably a lot of traps.
The gives to the slot were probably largely counter option. Fullback blocking on those being a reaction to how the interior D line was playing - if they're squeezing down to take away the fullback dive, let them do that, and the fullback can go one gap over as a lead blocker.
That is very much the Paul Johnson offense. The fullback trap isn't option itself, but is a basic reaction to the D line focusing on the dive.
I saw a lot of good play checks after lining up.
The fact that we kept doing counter stuff all day tells me Tulsa didn't make a lot of in game changes. We kept taking what they gave us, and it kept working. Not as much move, counter, counter-counter as we saw in the ECU and AF games.

Was able to check it again and you are right, it was a counter motion hand off with the slot reversing the direction of his pre-snap motion and the FB as a lead blocker. It is different from our regular counter so I did not recognize it at first but I like it. It seems quicker hitting than having the QB step in the first direction and then pivot like we often do. (And still reminds me ofbthe similar play that Army uses.)
